Recently purchased a 6105-8110 from 1973 knowing hands were incorrect. Have since sourced an original second hand from a member here and have also had advice that the minute and hour hands similar to those seen on 6139s may have been service hands or original to the watch. I am not saying they are but just thoughts of others. They certainly seem to have aged identically with the watch even to the colour of the lume. The seller claimed the watch was originally purchased by his father but was unaware the hands were incorrect. I have since purchased a 7005-8060 intending to swap out the minute and hour hands but am now having second thoughts as the lume as it is would be a mis-match and I don't know if I want to go down the path of matching the lume with the 6105. I would be happy to have as is knowing I can replace.

I know there are those right here that could Really help Clean up the Indices on the dial, Relume and also relume the Hour and Min hands And then the QUEST to find an OEM Second hand. Im Assuming the reason you went after a 6105-811x is because they are Beautiful Iconic Seiko's But??? imo there is some wisdom in just leaving her as she is, as others have mentioned, Lots of work here and have not begun to deal with the Movement, Servicing etc. After Lots of $ I came to the Place that I saw it was much better to find 6105s in better condition pay the extra And LOVE the FACE I looked at each Day. Welcome Good Luck with your Direction. Russellll

Congratulations on your score. I am very lucky to have came across one. Russell "SeikoZen" went out of his way to help me purchase it.
All the best with your decision on which path to take. I love original and also correct, however it is ultimately up to you.
Congrats again,

Mark

My book:

Needs different hour and minute hands for sure. They just detract from the look, patina and rotted are not the same thing.

With a hands swap the dial will look better too. Then the dark spots will be more pleasing in an overall.

Obviously this model has the iconic traffic light seconds hand so that must be done. Good originals are possible to be found doesn't need to be NOS given the dial condition.

Here is mine for illustration. It's no beauty queen. My dial went dark dark green probably got water intrusion. The hands were gross. They had robbed the traffic light sweeper too. So I did exactly what you are contemplating:. vintage swap out of H&M. They don't match in color but it's a huge improvement when I glance down it looks OK whereas before it was unacceptable.

Then a wonderful SCWF Member so generously answered my WTB post for an original sweep hand. Thank you JRingo !!

Totally agree. That traffic sweep plays a large role on this iconic piece. Just doesn't feel right without it. Id also suggest replacing and then reluming the dial and hands to match.

Thanks for all the advice. Just to be clear I have an original second hand purchased from a member here so that helps. Will more than likely have the donor hands relumed to match the dial and leave otherwise

Finally managed to swap out the hands but not before deciding the hands on the original 7005-8060 purchased as a donor would look out of place if left as is and I didn't want to try re-luming to match. Found another 7005-8062 which looked a better match and very happy with the way it has turned out. Decided to leave the original sweep second hand as is but will get around to re-luming one day

Great match.

If it was mine I would be getting rid of that black mould with peg wood spikes. It's an arduous task and needs nerves of steel, a steady hand and a precise touch, but would definitely improve it overall.
