I see you managed to get $510 for yours in the end - so just about broke even.

Since this one was too expensive and I would never get to touch one in my lifetime, I did a tick and risked buying it for the sake of selling, lol.
that way I could at least get to touch it once...
but you are so right. that watch is just damn fine. I would never buy it though. who would pay over 1500$ for a watch...

Aquaman I found it interesting that the topic had so much interest.

Interesting watch though...never had heard of it until now.

Best,

sepiarwen 1: How do you know how it was made -from paste and so on- ?

2. The Watch originally cost 1600$ back in 2003. since it's a limited edition item it even worth's more now on eBay. it's Valuable specially for collecting, even if you think it might be a weak Chrono. there might have been one or two people who could get their hands on this watch for cheap or not knowing it's worth, and selling them much cheaper on Ebay. but it doesn't make the watch any less valuable.

3. it's sad that doing such a cool vision / specially an idea where no other goods or watches has ever done / and has been done in such a beautiful way, would be criticized in such a way. Even if the movement seems cheap to you, the Watch as a whole, and it's beauty, and the use of something that flew in space in it, just knowing that, feels so great that it worth's every penny for a fan. If you guys want to banish and degrade such an amazing idea, then you are just looking at this as a Watch, and not from the view point of a Space lover Seiko fan.
Anyway.
I just came here to make sure people know it's a genuine Seiko Watch and not a Chinese knock-off. that was the purpose of this topic. So hearing bad things on this Watch kind of makes me sad.
So my work has finished here.

have a great time you all!

borgsauce The dial, although may contain the ceramic tile from the shuttle, is infact made from its paste. What I mean is that they had ground tiny bit of tile into powder, added some kind of binder and coated the dial with it. And as Dazzler had pointed out it uses a really cheap and impractical movement.

Sorry if this post seems like putting this watch down. But the Nasa connection with the tile is like saying " my watch has billions of years old metal that was formed at the core of a sun"

If a watch like this from Seiko was worth what you say, they wouldve atleast used a better movement.

Thus, my conclusion is that this watch is worth no more than $200-250 at most.

that's kind of not a fair comparison, first this Seiko watch is NOT a space watch but made from space shuttle parts.
Seconds that Omega x-33gen2 is not even Chrono and the price is 3 times higher than Seiko Nasa. so not everyone could afford it.
Third, the G-shock one, also the same, is a digital watch and not a chronograph anyway. there is way too much difference between these 3

It wasn't because the pushers weren't connected (in that previous shot).

The SII VD57 movement inside it is very low end - and cheap.

Having worked on one at the weekend (a later VD57B version, inside an over-sized Armani Exchange 'Tag Look-alike' chrono', belonging to a work colleague), I was certainly not impressed. I gave up trying to reset the chrono' hands.

A few posters ON WUS weren't too impressed either.

These are a very low cost movement. And IMHO a very annoying one...If you timing something and want to reset it it has to unwind itself backwards to zero! So if it ran for say 15 minutes it would take like 3 minutes to go back to zero before you can time again!! Plus the center second hand is the main and the sub at 6 is the chrono seconds which is a horrible.

Haha! Thank you too! if it wasn't for your disbelief I wouldn't look it up too
I just went to the store which paid for building this watch on Weekend. They showed me the documents and the old man there talked with me for an hour... I couldn't take pics of the documents but other than those, all other info are already on that Japanese blog it the last page.

If anyone wanted one I am selling one on Ebay for a bargain... But honestly this watch is too good and detailed and beautiful to be that cheap just ask tro_jan

argh. I feel so good now. now all the debates about this watch being a knockoff should stop.

Here is what they said :

English Translation :

I have read the WEB online inquiry dated October 23rd.
Thank you for your interest in our products.

The watch you inquired about,
It was manufactured in 2000 by Seiko Instruments Inc.,
a group company of our company, commissioned by Otoboke Co., Ltd.
Please note that after-sales service has already been over now.
Thank you for your attention.

Their Email screenshot :

Original Japanese text for you to translate yourself :

10月23日付けWEBオンラインお問合せを拝見致しました。
弊社製品にご関心をお寄せいただきありがとうございます。

お問合せいただきました時計は、
弊社グループ会社のセイコーインスツル㈱が株式会社おとぼけ の委託を受けて2000年にOEM製造したものです。
既にアフターサービスの受付けは終了しているとのことですので、
その旨ご留意いただきますようお願い申し上げます。

以上、簡単ではございますがご案内申し上げます。

Now who says this is Chinese knockoff or has red flags ???

By the way, the "Otoboke Co., Ltd." which they mentioned Is the SAME Store in Ginza which I was talking about.
that the owner had a vision to make Watches from Space Shuttle surface parts and went to USA
to talk to NASA headquarters and they finally made it with the help of Richard F. Gordon and Space Age America Inc,
and Seiko manufactured it.

isn't these all fascinating? and you all didn't really believe me....

Also as I said before, I think it's Unfair that Japan has done so many amazing things which sometimes gets buried under lack of English information or just... modesty
Thanks for going the extra mile!
I stand completely corrected and a little embarrassed but am happy for your score

jimmy1963 You need to have made 50 posts before you can offer an item for sale on the trade forum

I am going to post again with that. but honestly. I wish we get a warning or sthn to edit it beforehand.

it totally might seem that way. I don't blame anyone who thinks so. In fact I wanted to sell it elsewhere so I started to research. then I saw this thread and people were debating that it was fake, and I wanted to share my info which I was excited about and thought it answers the questions...
thanks for your information, though.

2. SEVEN DAY WAITING PERIOD if the watch or accessory you wish to sell or trade has been the subject of a post elsewhere on SCWF, with or without photos.

The ONLY Watch of this Seiko Nasa Spinoff Model on Ebay are these and these.
Both were sold for over 1000$ !!!
We are not supposed to post links to live eBay listings.
But FYI, it is item # 202805288278. The listing is still live.

The watch is a reverse panda same as yours and # 534 / 1000. It is NOS, listed as a Buy-it-Now for $599, like I said.

RETAIL PRICE IN 2003 WAS $1600 US DOLLARS!!!!

thanks! I said before too but it's because it's too big for my hand (since it's also Men's watch).
so I can't really use it myself.
