Default INCOMING : TITUS dive watch, ANY INFO

In a bid to get my 12 year old son interested in automatic watches, I've just bought him this TITUS dive watch! it's smaller size should be ideal for him. DOES anyone know anything about these little watches? Looking on the net it looks like this particular one has been around ebay a couple of times, and even looks like it came from Big Ben watches in America. At 60 is it a load of rubbish or is that about right. Thanks ( images for the listing )

Andpandy- I think for a boys first watch-you have a copy of a Seiko watch with probably a Chinese movement. The brand is listed here-- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solvil_et_Titus-- and they are still in business in Hong Kong. At just above the price you paid you might move up to Orient or Seiko watches for a better known and more durable product brand and quality level. As a first watch this one looks better than some of the samples that folks buy before they see the light.Good luck on your watch and timepiece discovery path.

Andpandy- As an after-thought -I forgot to say in my last post that I think this watch is attractive and yes, I would buy it for a 12 year old boy or girl. I like the dial and the color choice of the hands very much.I like the pepsi -red & blue-timing bezel color very much- and I like the see thru watch case back which provides a youngster with a chance to understand how the auto wind mechanical wrist watch operates. All these factors in my opinion make this a good watch in size and design for a 12 year old.And the price of 60 Pounds is about right for all these watch features & reasons, that i have mentioned. In my opinion-If Seiko or Orient made an exact copy of this watch as a youth auto mechanical model diver watch -I think it would become a favorite and best seller around the world-IMHOP. But others may say I may be mistaken.
Good luck with this watch purchase and all your time keeping !

As mentioned, Titus is in Hong Kong and has been around for awhile. I wouldn't necessarily assume a lower quality timepiece than Orient or Seiko...note that the rotor says 25 jewels, Swiss made. Also, regulator is Etachron (or that style, at least). At the turn of the quartz age, when Omega decided to get out of the "tuning fork" watch business (they had a considerable line of watches housing the last iteration of the traditional tuning fork...ETA 9162 and 9164), Titus was the buyer. Thereafter, a number of otherwise "Omega" watches were being produced under the name "Titus". Your find looks like a nice piece...of course proof will be in the function...and as a used watch I would always assume that a periodic maintenance is in order. Regards, BG
