Aevig Huldra a micro brand review

I came across the Aevig brand when casually cruising WUS the other day. There was a thread that is a couple of years old covering the build up and prototyping of the Aevig Huldra dive watch that caught my eye.

The labour of love of some Dutch Guy called Chip who designed it and organized its production in China. He is upfront about it's origins but the quality of manufacture is in my view par for the course relative to its cost plus it does have a great little Miyota 9015 at its heart.

Produced in three colours, Blue, black and orange the blue one seemed to have got all the WUSers excited and sold out pretty quickly as the is only 100 of each colour. This made it easier for me because I would have been torn between the blue and orange so getting the orange was a straight forward decision. Having the orange Huldra in my hands it ticks all the boxes and I am glad I have the orange one. The blue has the "wow" factor but I think there is too much blue and its attractiveness would wear thin over time.

I was a little concerned by some of the negative feedback about dodgy slack fitting bezels and bracelets that would not budge. Chip did say in his correspondence on WUS he would fix the issues and I am pleased to report that he has because the bezel on mine is perfect. It rotates well with no slop and the bracelet is good too.

At 42mm wide sans crown and 12.5mm thick the Huldra strikes a good compromise size wise and that combined with its shape and the multi, small linked bracelet make it easy to obtain a good wrist fit so it does not move around but does not feel too tight either.

The cost was just under 300 all in and it took three days via FedEx from the Netherlands. When the FedEx guy handed me the package I thought bloody hell what is this thing made of? Turns out the box the Huldra comes in is a little special. My MM300 came in a bit of cardboard but the Aevig is in a substantial piano black lacquer box!

The domed sapphire crystal has an AR coating but you would not think so because as with every other watch I have the domed crystal is a disaster when it comes to reflections. It makes photography a difficult process to capture the true to life colour of the dial which is a sort of metallic orange.

There is not much else to say apart from here's the rest of the pictures.

On the whole I am please with this little watch, it has a nice vintage vibe, good weight and is pleasant to wear. It makes a change to buy a new watch that is not massive and fits me properly. Well done Chip it must have been a difficult process but I appreciate your efforts.

Looks like a decent watch Mike, thanks for the review. Quality looks good, lots of design details and features. I like the dial with its hex indices, and the 6105 case shape works well too in my eyes. I'm undecided about the hands, but that wouldn't stop me giving one a test drive. Is Chip making any more models?

I knew the case reminded me of something, the symmetrical 6105 with a 3 o'clock crown:93:

This is the Aevig website;-

The compressor looks interesting.
