Default Seiko 5146 7030 crystal replacement

I want to replace the crystal on my presmatic 5146 7030 as my first watch related project. I have been working on big machines successfully and I think I'm up for it.

I have the NOS Seiko crystal, but I haven't been able to find any documentation on how to do it. I'd rather not get in and find any surprises.

Has anyone done this themselves, or have general knowledge that would be of help? For ex., will I need a replacement gasket? Does the bezel need to come off, etc., etc.

TIA,

Cwillie

I can't remember doing a 5146 crystal but from the pictures of your watch on the net and other Seiko crystals I have done I would say this should just press out and the new one should press in. No need to replace nylon gasket but....one thing to note when pressing in...keep the crystal square to the case or you will deform the gasket.

While the movement is out and the crystal is out why not give the case a good clean!

I have a new crystal to fit in my 7a28 7030 so it looks like i may be able to do it myself.
Thanks to Melt for the details.
