Default Seiko sample watch with movement?

I was looking at that one auction site and found a beautiful kinetic divers sample and was thinking how nice it was and how hard it would be to find a movement for a 2016 model year Seiko and noticed a movement in the watch in one of the photos (void of capacitor) This lead me to ponder if Seiko would put a working movement into a sample stamped watch. Would it be worth the money to try and get it working?

Any opinons or expirence? It is about 50% cheaper than a new watch, is it even worth the hassle?

There are new movements available. But there are also cheap second hand watches that may have the same movement.
1st step is to ID movement.

Cousins has a new movement for $118 which would put the cost at right at $300. This would put it about $160 cheaper than a new one with warrantee. Not certain it is worth it.

You can get cheaper used movements. The ones in the sample watches are usually missing a few parts. You get the coils, which is nice, but maybe the circuit is missing - or maybe (just maybe) it's only the capacitor. Which would be great.

Are you looking at the GMT models? That would reduce the available donors... But you can find an unloved R-SUS sometimes.

This is the one I was looking at as I always liked the sun065

The 5m85 doesn't seem that easy to find as a donor though.

You can substitute a 5M45 or 5M65. Charging circuit got better, but that's it in differences.

The ad clearly states there is no movement in the watch. Can't say whether it is a deal or not, but I would not expect the partial movement that you see in the picture to be there when you get it. If so, great, but when figuring whether it is financially a viable purchase, don't expect it.

They also sometimes glue down the crown on sample watches. That's something to be aware of. Unless you are in need of a replacement case, then they aren't usually worth buying.

Sample watches don't have movements. If you caught a glimpse of a movement then it is possible they are showing a working example in the pictures instead of the actual one you'd be purchasing. You should contact the seller and ask them the question directly. We can speculate till the cows come home, but only the seller will be able to tell you what the deal is. It could be a sample watch that someone else already sourced a movement for. Who knows? Oh, wait... the seller knows.

I think it will be a lost cause for me to try. I defiantly don't need it.

Are you on Facebook? There is a watch group there I'm a member of and one of the guys has a new SUN055 listed for $130. I was going to get it, but it's a little big for my taste.
