Default Seiko 6138 8020 Panda crystal removing

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this Forum and first of all I would like to say hallo to this great community and site full of precious information for Seiko-lovers like me.

I am writing my first post for a typical Noob question (please forgive me!)

I'd like to remove a Seiko panda crystal to replace the tachi ring below. Is this possible by removing the bezel? I have found no indents or entry points on the bezel so I suspect that I will have to remove the movement and remove the glass by acting from below. Is this correct ? or is there a way to remove the glass without removing the movement?

Thanks a million for your help! I couldn't find this info in this site or elsewhere on the web , so i think your input could be useful to many.

The bezel does have an indent un the underside, to allow you to get a case knife into the gap between bezel and case where the indent is.

here's a picture of mine, after I removed it

and here is a side shot before I removed it, showing the 'gap' at approx. 9pm

if you can't locate this gap, then it means whoever has replaced the bezel has put it on so the gap is hidden by the case (so the gap is between 11pm and 1pm or 5pm and 7pm)

I've had this on one watch and it was a real b$gger to get the bezel off.

Thanks a lot Sir Alan that was really helpful. I think mine is like the one you described with the indent hidden shhhhh....t I'll try to rotate the bezel to get access to it!

best
