Can't set day or date on 6139-6005
I am new here.
I discovered a nasty looking Seiko 6139-6005 chronometer in a "junk box" a month or so back. The crown was missing and the crown threads were missing from the stem.
The watch winds and runs. The chrono features were repaired by removing and cleaning the pushers and springs. So far so good. I like the watch.
I paid a local watchmaker to install a stem and crown. The good news is that the time can be set and the watch keeps time. Nice. The bad news is that I still cannot set the day or date--other than by spinning the hands counterclockwise to change the day and clockwise to advance the date. I am unable to get the day and date synchronized this way... so far.
The crown does not press in to quick set the day and date. Is this the way all 6139 movements set the day and date? I wonder if the wrong stem or crown was installed? Is there a DIY way to check? The stem is easy for me to remove and reinstall.

Did you go back and ask him about it? Perhaps he had a moment and cut the stem too short, preventing the crown from being able to travel far enough into the case recess to activate the quick-set. This assumes it quick-sets OK with the movement out of the case.
