I have ordered a DX which has the 6106B main plate, as per the green dialed watch in this picture.

It's been hovering on the bay for a while so I am going to see what its main plate looks like.

Managed to get the case assembled.

New crystal and case back seal otherwise all original parts.

The bezel spring went in easier than expected.

Thought I would pop a spare 6106 movement on the dial and have a look through the new crystal while I await the return of the re jewelled main plate which by the way has been worked by Dave McKane.

Firstly a thank you to Dave McKane for jewelling the barrel ports on the main plate and bridge. Great job again.

Something for the eagle eyed experts, why did I have to rework the top assembly.

Yes, I will have to sort the lume out after I have it running OK.

The reason I had to re work the top was the date corrector was incomplete, shown on the left.

Fortunately the spare 6106B I purchased for its main plate had a good one shown right.

DSCN0495.JPG

Day and date changers now work perfectly.

I have ordered a new strap, Di-Modell Sharkskin 19mm

DiModell straps are my favorite. Great quality and reasonably priced. That strap looks awesome.

Didn’t the 19mm metall bracelet not fit or did you change your mind? Just being curious.

The original bracelet has one link missing so I must wait patiently for another to appear. I feel a long wait here.

The second one I purchased needs some work on the end links to make it presentable. I think it will fit and be a fair match.

The sharkskin is to make the watch wearable until one of the fore is sorted.

Ok thanks. Where did you find the second one if you don’t mind sharing?

Sorry to resurrect this topic but I am after help.

The caseback is worn such that the model number is missing. After much Googling I discovered a web page where the writer termed it a 6106-8100 blue dial also available in white and grey. I now believe it's a 6106-8589.

Can another owner confirm this thought.

thanks

Hi Gavin, Interesting and thanks. There is a live ebay listing for a 6106-8589 (dial in poor condition) but none the less a very similar watch. Googling this model reveals more cases with the blue 'chevron' dial than when searching 6106-8100.

Also found this on SCWF, https://www.thewatchsite.com/21-japa...back-past.html

Ahhh just picked up in that topic, the op has a 6106-8100 and points out the cases are very slightly different.

More info the ebay listing shows the caseback inside stamped DAIANI SEIKOSHA CO LTD. I have read elsewhere that SEIKO moved some models manufacture to this company, the 62MAS (last production) being one and they changed certain aspects to the original SEIKO manufacture. It appears the case on the 8589 has enhanced shoulders. In effect clearing up the concern (case back change) that mine is an 8100.

Left 8100, right 8589

Pic thanks to SeikoPsycho2

Hi Don

Ah that explains it then. A different case style.

Very subtle though. Wonder if the dial code is the same?

It was seeing your rebuild thread originally that got me looking for one. I love mine and wear it often despite it showing its age a bit. Definitely a keeper!

Cheers

Gavin
