Default 7sXX barrel and mainspring in 70XX

Firstly, since this is my first post here, I'll start by introducing myself: My name is Tom, and I'm an old Scot now living in Nova Scotia. I got into this hobby through modding Seiko 5s and progressed through that to servicing and repairing vintage movements. After a bit of practice on spare 7sXX movements, I've now got a handful of vintage ones under my belt, so I'm still very much on the bottom rung of the ladder, experience-wise.

I'm currently working on a 7016 Monaco movement and I was struck by the similarity between the barrel in the 7016 and that in the familiar 7s26. I know these movements are closely related so I was wondering whether they may be interchangeable. It would save a bit of time if I could simply drop in a nice, nearly new barrel and mainspring, of which I have plenty from my previously destroyed practice movements. I checked the part numbers and they don't match, which would suggest probably not, but the diameter is identical so it might still be worth a try. I'll make some more measurements tonight, but I was wondering if anyone has tried this swap before and can report back on whether it works.

Barrel and M/S for 7016 is unique. 0201059 part Number

But you can always try and swap and see if the watch runs better. Or measure mainspring in 7016 and get generic.

Usually, chrono movements have stronger/longer mainspring compared to their non chrono bases.

Just buy the proper barrel. They’re not expensive considering the watch.

Thanks for your help guys
I did a bit of measuring last night and can confirm that the dimensions of the two barrels are identical. I didn't accurately measure the mainsprings but they appear to be the same. The big difference is in the barrel arbor which is much longer in the 7016 - I should probably have expected that given that the movement is thicker overall. So, I suppose if I was minded to try it, I could just transplant the 7016 arbor into a nice fresh 7s barrel/mainspring, but having got this far, I might as well just carry on and rewind the old mainspring.

Just to tie up loose ends on this; I measured both springs and, as Acidstain suspected, the 7016 spring was slightly longer (but the same in its other dimensions). The barrels were identical but the arbor in the 7016 was much longer. In the end I've just reused the old spring/barrel/arbor as they all seem to be in good nick.
