Default 6M12 with sticky seconds hand

I have a 6M12 that Iím having a little trouble with. I couldnít find a manual but these are essentially a limited version of the 6M25/6 that only has modes for time, month and chrono. Hopefully someone else here has seen something similar on another 6M and can give me a little advice.

The watch was sold as not working but knowing how these can get in a state without a reset when the battery runs out I took the risk. Iíve been through the power reset and realignment of the hands. Without issue.

Everything seems to work expect the actual ticking of the seconds hand. The crazy thing is that the position of the hand can be adjusted, it joins in with the dancing routine and it jumps location as you switch between modes. It just doesnít move in time or chrono mode. Occasionally it twitches. The hour and minute hands progress as expected, keeping time.

Has anybody seen this before or have any idea if itís something I might be able to fix? What scares me is that clearly the stepper motors are alive which indicates it could be a problem with the IC rather than just something gummed up. Iíd love to be wrong though.

Also, a photo.

Ok in the reset zero all mode can you get the second hand to rotate about 10 times, this might get it to stop the twitching. Even running the dancing hands mode might free it up

Or warm the watch up this can get the dry oil running.

Lastly you have to service it...at least the coil and wheels for the second hand. It runs independently of the hour and minute hand...well it does on 6M25

Thanks for this. Iíll give it some driving in those two modes.

Do you know how these work? It seems very odd that it could dance but not make a 1 second tick.

Thank you so much! Itís alive again after a lot of spinning in the alignment mode.

Itís double ticking so Iím guessing the resistance drained the battery despite it being brand new yesterday.

Excellent news. I think even though the battery was new sounds like it was poor and didn't have the power to do the one second click. Replace battery with a good one like Sony etc.
Can't find 6m12 but here is 6m25 manual should be similar

Yes, Iíll get some better ones. These ones were well reviewed on amazon but Iíve never heard of them. I usually go with with Panasonics having always had good results.

The 6m25/6 manual was very useful as the layout for the reset is the same.

Sorry if this is off topic, but I am looking at picking one of these up and was curious how you like it and what your opinions are on the piece. I can't tell if I'm just hypnotized by the novelty dancing hands or not

I have numerous dancing hands Seikos, I think they are excellent watches. My favourite is the 6m26 8050 which was only released in Japan.
