Default New life to vintage bezel inserts?????

Thought some of you might find this interesting and maybe useful.

I acquired an all original 7002. The condition of the insert was beyond what I would choose to wear, so I thought I would try something. Cleaned it with acetone and coated with Birchwood Casey Aluminum Black Metal Finish.

It is not a "wonder drug", but in my opinion greatly lessened the visual effects of scratches on the insert by darkening them. I think this would really be helpful on a very nice insert that inadvertently got a scratch (that would drive some of us crazy!!)

What do you think? (Also, please keep in mind these pics were taken under some very extreme lighting--they actually look better in real life, especially the after).

When I click on each pic it enlarges and the cursor turns to a +, then clicking with the + makes it huge. If this doesn't work for you, I'll see if I can enlarge them.

Ah, I’ve been just looking on my phone. I’ll try it again from my laptop, thanks.

Very interesting. Doesn't do anything to remove the deep scratches, but they are certainly less visible.

I wonder if my 62MAS insert would benefit from that (no more "numbers touching the rim, it's FAKE" comments...)

No, just wiped it down with acetone (careful not to get any on the pip) then wet it with the Black using a q-tip. I did test a small spot on the back to make sure the anodizing would not be affected by the acetone. If you are concerned, I would think alcohol would doe the job (de-greasing).

Hey why would not model paint work like Jonathan talked about in the past?
Like Testor's ?
Then a clear coat over it all?
