Default Rolex Sub bezel insert ...will it work

Hey friends, has anyone tried fitting a Rolex Sub bezel insert to an SKX007/9 ?
Will it work ?
Does it fit ?
Does it fit with some modifications?

TIA
Richard

It works. But seiko is a flat insert while a rolex is domed. So if you install a tolex insert and keep the original skx crystal, the crystal will sit much lower than the insert.

Also make sure the rolex insert is for a “sapphire model” not plastic model. (16613 vs 5513)

Not sure why you even consider this, as the selling price for a real Rolex Sub bezel insert is about 3-4 times what a new SKX can be had for... There are plenty of aftermarket bezels, both aluminum and ceramic, that mimic the Sub's aesthetic, I would go for one of those. But like mentioned above, make sure the crystal is the correct height to match it, if sloped.

My friend I wasn't meaning putting an original Rolex insert on a Seiko , that would be foolish.
I guess I should've been more clear. "Dimensionally", would a Rolex aftermarket sub bezel fit? Ive got a Rolex model that I wanna mimic on a SKX, the dial part I've found but the insert that would compliment it to complete the Rolex look I can't find from all the typical Seiko mod vendors.

Seiko inserts are i believe 37.9 or 38.0mm most rolex sub sapphire inserts are 37.7-37.8 so you won’t be able to snap it in the bezel, but using bezel tape it won’t be noticeable. Main issue is the slope of rolex bezel. The inside edge of it will rise about 1.5 - 2.0mm above the flat skx crystal.

Here's a link to another SCWF thread with a bezel size guide.

I was thinking of doing a double dome crystal anyhow, so maybe that will fill some of the gap of the "slope" ...thoughts ?

I prefer domed. That's what I used in most of my divers. If it's an aluminum insert you can use a caseback press to concave or flatten it to what you need. If you're looking for a submariner style, there are plenty made for Seiko's. You may not nee to try and find one made for a Rolex.

Gotcha. I agree with what someone else said, that there are great "Submariner" aftermarket inserts that perfectly. Check out Dagaz and Yobokies, they both have the parts to mod. I did one recently on an SKX031 (the 39mm with 3-O'clock crown), upgraded to a 4R35 movement, double dome sapphire and Submariner insert. It worked pretty well, but was a lot of work. Not as many directly compatible parts for the SKX031 as for the SKX007, specifically the crown.

Anyway, good luck with the mod.

Default Rolex Sub bezel insert ...will it work

So I was trying to keep it under wraps for the "big reveal " lol ... but I've always had an affection for the Rolex "Root Beer" GMT Master, and that's what I'm trying to mimic here's what I have so far and what I need.
First is a pic of the Rollie
Then the dial I plan to use
Last is an aftermarket Rolex root beer bezel I found that I'm hoping would work ...

May use this dial instead...

Not again !

Richard Rolex dimensional inserts usually fit. Acidstain is busy sharing the secrets of a real pro above. Thanks Stephen.

I saw a similar mod as to what you are showing and have actually thought about doing a similar mod as you are planning, or something close to it using a brown Seiko dial or a pure generic like FFF.

Go for it ! What's the worst that can happen, a few extra parts in the parts drawer and you re-tool for the next mod ?

Please don't use a domed glass
As they stick up they scratch really easily and then look horrible. Domed won't go with the look of the Rollie rep either.
