I used to be a Hi Fi lover but now i just love music. The currant setup is:-
Linn Lingo, LP12, Ittock, AT-OC9 running into Audiolab C8000-P8000 and I mainly use Sennheiser HD565 headphones because the hearing is not so good and they work better for me than my speakers. The currant speakers are in the roof, I had a pair of MA 852 MD Golds that suited the system well but I blew them up listening to recordings of the BRM V16 and have never found a replacement I liked.

None has been changed for yonks apart from upgrading the LP12 (very expensive) and replacing the Linn cart I wore out and getting the PS and control amp serviced and re-capped.

Been through quite a lot of equipment when I was going through my Audiophile Peter Belt phase but am cured now, I sold off stuff to upgrade so do not have a collection, but I wish I had hung onto some it it because some pieces have become Audiophile cult classics.

I must say Neil, your collection is mental

Nice stuff! I have a pair of Rogers ls55 in the living room with an old Technics amplifier, used to have Leak speakers and amplifiers but also when making music I used to use a pair of Quad 405 amps powering some huge BBC Rogers LS5/8 speakers.

My dad has a lot of old stuff and one of the nicest is a Stereo 20 valve amplifier.

Not my pics :

I used to have a pair of Technics 1200 decks but sold them yonks ago. Now I have an RME Multiface 2 interface outputted to some concentric cone Tannoy System 600a speakers.

I chased audio equipment for a little while in the 80s and 90s but space and finances (art student) weren’t ideal at the time. I did wind up with a nice apartment size system that I still have knocking around today, but haven’t listened to it much lately.

Denon PMA-1060 integrated amp.

Adcom GCD-575 CD player

Revolver Rebel w/ sumiko blue point. Not ideal as the tone arm has very little adjustment, but it still does sound nice.

Infinity Reference One bookshelf speakers

When I was in my 20s I had high end stuff but that passed and these days I just want what i'm listening to to sound good , IMO you don't need to spend huge amounts to achieve that [ a guy I did some building work for has just paid 50 odd grand for bang and olufsen speakers ]

Here's what we use now
Q Acoustics speakers
Clear audio concept turntable
Rega Brio amp [lusting after a valve amp from Icon audio ]

First Gen B&W Zeppelin

Pye Achoic from the early sixties [ had it rebuilt last year and it sounds great ]

My daughter has some of my old stuff
Rega Planar 3 turntable
and a lovely sounding Yamaha A-S500 amp

Guy awesome mate.
Never had Rogers speakers but they look nice. That Leak Valve Amp is Right up my street as I love Vintage stuff,Also those big Vintage Speakers I would just love to get my hands on them and refurbish them especially the cases.
Look like they have a 12-15” main driver but top right looks like they are missing
Maybe an adjuster or crossover adjuster?
Your Technics 1200 Decks you must be kicking yourself mate getting rid of them as they are worth a fortune now.
I upgraded my 2 Audio Technica Decks which sound now as good as an SL1200 for less money.
Vinyl is Final as they say!!

Clear audio deck is also another Turntable I like.
Wish list would be a Michell Orbe Turntable.
How do you find the Q Acoustic Floorstanders? As I auditioned them but went for the Acoustic Energy AE120,s and put more Lead shot ballast weight in them and spiked them both.they now sound as good as my 2pairs of Legendary Mission 753,s. Thanks for sharing Jimmy.

Thanks Mike.
I used to have the Sennheiser HD565 then got a pair of HD650,Loved them but then got a pair of Grado SR325e which blew the Sennheiser away.
I still use the Grados but recently bought the B&W P7 Wireless and best headphones I’ve heard plus added benefit of Bluetooth with not much loss in sound quality from wired.
Your LP12 is a legend and I’ve always loved Audiolab equipment but never owned any.

Sold the 1210s they were actually, in around 1998 for 300 each.... They were dropping in price new to about 400... I see now they're about 1500 usd...

I have a lovely old thorens record deck that I may dig out one day that's really my dad's.

Those pictures aren't mine by the way buy pretty much how they look. The LS5/8s went after dad sold them after saying if I wanted them, but they are just too huge for my flat. Miss them...they were great. Each quad 405 amp was mono and would power the speakers individually.
I think the little wiring bit next to the tweeter is a gain adjustment for the high end. I think it was anyway... They had dust covers but like that picture I always liked the look of them without.

Headphone wise I have some Beyer Dynamic DT990 Pro, excellent sounding things and very comfortable. I don't make much music anymore but I really should. Mostly just play piano as I have an upright Bentley that sounds great.

Had a few different bits and pieces over the years but I definitely prefer the older wooden frames 60s 70s amps etc. The Rogers speakers are nice and I replaced the tweeter not long ago as it had popped. They are just powered on a a Technics SU-500.

Annoying thing is a lot of TVs don't have phono outs, but just optical etc, actually do you know a way I could plug the speakers into a smart TV, some kind of optical to analogue converter I guess?

Do TVs today not still have RCA jack for audio, or maybe USB now? I haven’t bought a TV in maybe 10 years, so can’t say. I guess everything goes through HDMI now?

Guy main problem with current TVs even 4K like mine or the new QLed is that you would have to run an Amp off them through the optical if it has no RCA to power external speakers.Main problem apart from that would be a TVs internal amps would struggle to power any decent external speakers due to low power.
Either way all mine have optical out, component RGB and HDMI.
Soundbars are another option and sound good with a sub but still have to be mains powered.
I have 4K TVs and a new Sony 4K Blu Ray player which does look stunning yet I
Know 8K TVs are already on the Horizon.
It’s never ending!! Guess you just have to appreciate what you like sound and vision wise and don’t read up on new Technology.
Even 1080p looks great.
As for hifi I’m a firm believer that the stuff I have now will eventually be Vintage and sought after so look after what you’ve got.
It’s just like watches.how much was an Arnie new or a 6105? Even Vintage Seiko Lcd Digitals are pulling big money.
What goes around comes around,Just look at Vinyl.
So glad I kept all my Lps.

Jimmy small listening room was probably to blame at the dealer.
Great you got to check out at home a few sets.Thats the sign of a good dealer.
I assume it wasn’t Richer Sounds? Although they have been good to me in the past.
I deal with a company called Lintone who deal with only Audiophile stuff and the staff know I know as much as them.
Would dearly love A set of B&W Diamond 800 Speakers but £9000 is a lot of Tunas.

My couple of recent absolute bargains from the bay.
£17.98 plus £10 postage for a Rosewood set of legendary mission 753 with blown tweeters and a missing binding post, but I had a brand new set of spare Tweeters and I’ve loads of gold binding posts.
Plus they were advertised in the Amplifier section and at 4am £17.98 won the bid.

The second set were a rosewood mint again Legendary set of Mission 751,s.
I already have these but these were just too special and in too good condition to pass.
All I’m after now is a mint Pioneer A400 Amplifier.(once quoted as the £1000 amplifier giant killer) .

Here’s the Mission 753,s now repaired and the mint Rosewood 751,s.

Thanks Jimmy they are mint both sets.i wouldn’t mind getting them sprayed in high gloss clear which would really show off the Rosewood colour.
Not sure if a car bodyshop would do that or if I would need to get a cabinet refinisher to do them.

Poor componenets here ...

Here is PURE HI-FI

My first expensive hobby after college. Several moves and accompanying downsizing has left me with a much smaller system. I no longer have a dedicated two-channel system in addition to a home theater, though I have kept my Denon turntable and Nakamichi cassette deck. I long ago realized that my eyes are much less forgiving than my ears, so video quality trumps when compromises have to be made.
