Default In Japan...

Hi all, I just landed in Tokyo and am staying in Shinjuku with the weekend to kill. I'll take some pictures and post over the couple days. Upon walking into my room in the Hyatt, I was greeted by this fun little alarm clock...perhaps a good omen for tomorrow's hunting. . Cheers!

Mike

Good luck on your hunt. I will be interested to see what you fine.

I always like to drop by the Yodobashi dedicated watch store in Shinjuku they usually have a good range and very friendly staff.

Hi everyone...some pictures from the walk so far. I took some shots but didn't want to annoy any shops by snapping too many. Some non watch content here but what the heck?

Firstly, I started out on my walk towards Shinjuku station and while cool today, it's sunny and the buildings look great!

Japan is excited about the Olympics...wonder of Seiko will somehow get involved?

Neat Citizen clock on the way:

First stop was in the BIC Camera shop above Odakyu dept store. This Piece was very striking and I might have pulled the trigger but I'm not in love with the movement. Still, with a strong $ and €, this is not bad plus another 5% off with a passport

I'll post more in a minute...

Ok, here's another of the Fieldmaster:

And some divers...not the greatest selection but I tried on the MM and was surprised by how small it is...but I really liked it.

I was pretty disappointed with the Citizens...not much to see there. And the Orients didn't have much going on and the divers were massive. Still there was one wild, interesting piece. Not my cup of tea but fun:

The ad poster...makes it seem kind of cool:

Next stop was to Ishida...normally a great haven for vintage Swiss watches and an amazing selection of everything new from Casio to Patek. Today, the vintage selection was so-so and prices were up versus a year ago due to the low ₯. Still, this was outside and shows how much Japan loves Limited Edition versions:

Saw this new Omega in the flash...the sweep hand is cool:

This G-shock cross section was impressive...the shop also had the yellow 30th anniversary collection...striking but not for me:

Next was some much-needed food and beer:

The sushi was great...$13 seems like a steal...especially compared to Germany!

Then a walk to the electronics district and snapped an obligatory shot of a WRX:

Next was to Yodobashi and this is where my wallet got into trouble! They had the anniversary chrono...tough to get a good shot but it was nice:

Some cool Citizens:

And I finally saw a really great looking Orient:

I dropped downstairs looking for a 22mm black metal bracelet for my Spring Drive tuna but only found up to 20mm...frustrating. Still, I grabbed a couple new "shoes"...the mesh for an old Seamaster 120 and the 19mm flat vent for the 6105 and because is not seen one before (and they had only 1 left)...I LOVE how Yodobashi asks and gives free fat spring bars:

More...where the wallet comes out...

So, I stumbled to the display section of divers not really wanting to look as this is where I get into trouble...sorry no pic but I'll stop by tonight and snap one. I was caught up in the moment when I laid eyes on the Emperor. I'd tried on the Emperor twice before and loved it but had only seen it a year before at the Seiko store in Ginza so no discount and last August in HK where the price was brutal. Well, Yodobashi had it listed for roughly $2090 after the duty free discount or less than €1600...I really haven't seen one that low. I tried it on and loved it. But, I decided to get it and pop downstairs for an $11 black NATO strap. I'm not a fan of the big strap tail from the rubber strap. Yodobashi changed the strap out in less than 5 minutes and for free...amazing service. Here's the strap department:

And here's the Emperor...comfortable and not too big on my little wrists...perfect with the NATO.

Thanks for following. I'll take more shots of the emperor later and more Japan shots of you'd like to see them! I'll walk around mer tonight and to some more watch spots (probably more Swiss) tomorrow. Thanks and cheers!!

Thanks for the pics Mike, it looks like you are having a great time.

That Emperor looks great and I am sure you will enjoy it.

If you have a chance drop by Wako in Ginza and see what they have on display. That would have to be my favourite watch store with great presentation, service and always something of interest. When I was there in November I saw the Credor Minute Repeater and the time before that they had the Tourbillon #1 by Hajime Asaoka.

If you have not been before and have a few hours to spare the Seiko Museum is worth the visit.

Hi all, thanks for the nice words...the currency is fantastic right now. Perhaps the one good thing about the Seikos we like being JDM only is that the prices in ₯ terms have stayed stable. As mentioned, Swiss watches have increased greatly here to make up for the weak ₯.

More pics later today and then sadly to work tomorrow here!
