Default automatic movement for 7c46-7009 SQ

I just read [color=#444444]speedbirds topic on placing a 6309 movement into a tuna case. I have this 7c46 SQ, which I love, even though it is massive.

[color=#444444]I know there are 600m autos out there (hard to find and even harder to afford) but is it technically possible to put a decent automatic movement into that quartz monster?
[color=#444444]There is one at Tokunaga´s watch museum and in the mind of Jeremy Clarkson I thought: "How hard can it be?!"

[color=#444444]Are there any experiences or suggestions out there, apart from not even thinking of it? Just a thought …

[color=#444444]Cheers,

[color=#444444]Mat

If it was me, and I had that lovely bit o' watch and wanted to do the same thing, I might investigate seeing if the 6R15 would fit from the Sumo. That would be a very cool combo, not a true auto but a movement I love and once it's wound certainly acts like one. Plus it is already being done by Seiko itself on their new landmaster-Tunas. The Samurai movements are great too.

If not, I'd think a 6309 would drop right in, but I don't know the internal dims. of that case versus the 7549. Others will know more though...the hands and crown tend to be the biggest hurdles with movement swaps, but you may have spacer issues as well. I know nothing's impossible so it comes down to how much are willing to spend to have it done right.

Good luck if you decide to do it, and keep us posted. You can always return it to stock if needed too.

Best,

Mike

Bear in mind, when choosing your movement, that you will need to be able to release the stem from the front since that is the way you access the movement on those watches - not all movements allow this, certainly the 6309/6306 etc stem release is available only from the back - there will be plenty of work in this mod, but it sounds like fun ;-).

Cheers,

Andy

My lack of that watch details doesn't help you with my suggestions Mat...I'm keen to see what auto movement would work in there then.

Best,

Mike

... thanks for your thoughts guys. Well, maybe I keep on swapping strps and bracelets
No, serious, the idea ws that this beauty deseves a proper movement although I have no problems with quartz watches. Some of my Seikos I like most are electric.
My, maybe stupid, dream was to swap the movement and get the warch back to original when needed.
Of cause my skills are quite limited and the possibilities of ruining a watch are quite a lot.
I will keep you updated if something is going on.

Thanks for the helpfull ideas.

Cheers
