Default Help identifying Seiko 6138-0030

Hello SCWF.

Got bitten by the seiko vintage bug after my grandfather passed on to me a seiko 5626 after passing away.

I need advise since I have been searching for a Seiko Kakume and planning on going to Japan in the chance of stumbling upon one.

With all the AM dials, hands and frankenstein watches, I am getting a bit overwhelmed and mislead about what are true original Kakume.

The two pictures I found show different silver hands and black subdial hands. I believe to be AM hands but could be wrong.

Just wondering if anyone can assist to point out some obvious flaws with these two watches and to what to look for.

Thanks

Thank you so much.

Based on these two examples. Hands and subdial hands are pretty much not original for the JDM and international.

Pretty obvious now with those articles.

I think the bezels are iffy on both of those as well. And who knows what else...

Here's a Kakume I lucked into a couple of years back - came to me pretty much NOS:

Beautiful watch ewand. Thank you.

Yea researching when I get ready to for Japan.
Just want to be prepared to look for a good example of one.

When looking up pictures I got some inconsistencies especially with all the fraken watches out there. Just need some clarification.

Thanks

Hi folks.
If you are looking for Franken, take a gander at mine!
I knew it wasn't original, and paid accordingly, but only under 1% of people will know the dial, hands, bracelet etc are wrong. I think the case is ok but not checked the movement so I use it as a beater.

A good writeup on Kakumes and what to look for when buying a good vintage piece.
