Default K. Hattori Content - Compass set?

Hi all,

I regularly search Yahoo Japan for the term "K. Hattori" just to see whatever random non-watch stuff they made before they became Seiko. It's how I found this neat altimeter, among other things. This time around, I snagged what was described as a "K. Hattori compass set." Obviously it's not a set of compasses as in orienteering, but I assume it's meant to help with drawing circles, akin to the compasses I remember using as a kid. But the kit looks nothing like those, and I have no idea how to use them. Anyone more familiar with what these might be or how to test them out? I can remove the individual pieces from the parts they go into, if that makes any sense, by unscrewing the little circles that hold them in. Even if I can't figure them out, I was the only bidder at 1000 yen, or about $10, so they're pretty neat regardless. Anyway, pics:

Very nice. It’s part of a beam compass. The
2 large parts would clamp onto a rule or beam.

Google Beam Compass and you will see different examples old and new.
