Default New member with a 6020 wants info...

Hi all,
I am a new member who received a Seiko watch from my Father-in-Law's estate.

This is a beautiful watch, which seems to be 14K.

The case is about 31mm in diameter.

I would like to learn more about this watch and I have questions about the markings on the back that seem to contradict the numbers on the dial.

https://ibb.co/yXdhFyk

The back lists:
6020-8099-A
0110066

even though the front dial shows: 6020-4170-A

I read a post regarding dating from the serial number, but I got confused by the example given as related to what appears to be the serial number on my watch...

Anyway, TIA folks and thanks for the add to the forum!

Phil

Sorry about the image hosting that might have caused the picture to not show...

Moved the photograph to imgbb so it should work now.

The case back code describes the movement and the case style. The numbers on the dial are dial specific but generaly have similar numbering; ie this watch would most likely have had a dial with 6020-8xxx-x on it or else the case back was changed from the original 6020-4xxx.

The serial number would have been either 6 or 7 digits depending on age. The manufacturing date would be the first 2 numbers of the serial# with the first digit being the year and the second being the month. The decade will be a guess depending on the style and when the 6020 calibre was available.

Thank you for your reply.

So, the Mfg date would be January 1980.

I find it interesting that it has a gold back and not a stainless steel back. Also, the watch is very thin... approximately 5mm.

PS interesting, too, that I was able to post a link in the thread starter but not in this reply!
