Default Took a shot with this turtle clone

I just pulled the trigger on a locally assembled, partially made turtle clone. List of specs:
-Automatic NH35A Japanese Movement
-All 316 Stainless Steel Case, Back, Crown, and Hardware
-Screw Down Stem, and Back to achieve 200 meter water resistance
-Anti-reflective Blue Hard Coated Crystal

Shouldn't take long to get it as it's made in my home state. Had anyone here seen or purchased one of these? Looks like a newer startup. What do you think of the finish? Just wanted to get some experts thoughts on the movement also. I think it's a Seiko movement. Want sure if I should post this in the non-Japanese forum or there here, figured it's a Japanese movement so here it is. Oh yeah, I paid under $200.

Not bad, nh35a I've heard it's seiko. Do you have a link where I can shop?

Looks like very small batches produced. I can update when I receive it. Doesn't look like many folks are interested though.

Wasn't aware that the bastardized term 'turtle' was no being applied to the 6105 diver as well

My mistake, probably should have called it a "Captain Willard" clone. I hope I didn't offend anyone.

Looks decent. Not sure I would pay $200.00 for it, when I can pick up an original 6309-7049 in great condition for $300.00, which I did, by the way.

It’s a cheap 6105 copy with truly awful dial text. Wouldn’t have paid $20 for it

Sharkey 6105 Homage... Same, Same but Different. Looks like it was made by the same manufacturer just Re-branded. The Sharkey has a cool applied Shark Logo on the Dial. Detroit Mint - Islander???

Definitely does look like the Sharkey's. I figured $165 for a good movement that I could wear as a beater isn't bad. Detroit Mint is the company, islander is the model. It is kind of tacky, but wasn't a deal breaker for me.

Wow, maybe I should have warned some senior members not to bother with this thread. I didn't realize, being new to watch collecting and this site, that there were such elitists here. Thanks all for your opinions.

It looks fine for what it is and has an excellent Seiko movement

Sorry, not offended, just curious as to the use of the word.

Back to your question...if you liked the original then this is a pretty good looking homage; possibly one of the better ones out there

What you should also realise is that when you ask for opinions, you should expect a varied response, so don't take it personally.

Is the movement a Seiko? That is what attracted me initially.

Did not notice that anyone sounded elitest. We are merely giving our opinions, which is what you asked us to so. If you like the watch, that is all that matters. I have thought about picking up a Sharkey....

It's getting harder to find a nice example for $300. I've been collecting antiques for some time and eBay has really changed things. I think to find one as nice as yours, then COA your looking at like $600. Maybe working with sellers on this site may be the way to go for good honest purchases, and fair prices.

Yes, the NH15 is the Seiko third party movement which is identical to the 6r15 in all respects other than stampings.
It is an excellent movement that is a step up from the entry level offerings like the 4rxx series.
It has a special balance spring and mainspring to give it better accuracy and stability.

EDIT: I missed the movement line in the OP's post. This is of course the NH35 which is the same as the 4r35! There is nothing special about this calibre as it is Seiko's entry level movement for today.

Not sure I like the LIMITED 6105 EDITION 8110 text on the dial. Homage is one thing but blatantly copying codes is a No No.

Default 6105 homage

Enjoy the watch, If I was not able to afford OEMs This would be a Nice OPTION imho. To be able to hand wind is a Nice Plus. I just don't see any big deal Between $200 or $165 Considering the COST of a Beautiful OEM 6105-8110 Again just me.. but at $2000 less than a ""OEM NICE"" 6105-8110/8119 this is a nice Choice.

That was my initial reaction, as well.

Just had a closer look at the dial and I missed something important before...the 'Detroit Mint' text is offset beneath the 12 o'clock marker!

This would drive me or anyone with alignment issues, bonkers.
How difficult would it have been to get that small(large) detail right???

I wish they would just do a sterile dial version, I would get one for $165.
