Default Hollywoodland Citizen 8110

Brad Pitt spotted wearing a gold-plated Challenge Timer in Tarantino's Hollywoodland. Might finally be the recognition Citizen deserves -the 8110 was technologically superior to the 6138 (Apologies, Jim W) but their small case sizes translate to not much modern appeal

By the way, Tarantino didn't do his homework enough. The 8110 was mid 70s while Hollywoodland was smack in the middle of the Manson murders, which would have been the horrible year of '68 ?

Well the movie i am told is set in the Summer of 1969...Tarantino might not know much about watches...maybe just his production people got it wrong...very cool you spotted it...God Bless,John

Love the Citizen 8110a and I have a soft spot for the 9119-

I realised I needed a Bullhead too so I'm collecting parts for a 9143 black-coated bullhead with gold trim. Can't wait till that's on my wrist!

I used to have the one in your picture. The 10 o clock crown rotated the inner bezel . The case was similar to the more popular Seiko "volcano/ helmet" case but smaller. Had Citi had the foresight to make its watch cases 2 to 3mm bigger , it would have been much more saleable today

Loved them both as well. There is some criticism about the portrayal of Bruce Lee - but if you ask me it was pretty accurate. He was an arrogant man in his early, green hornet days. He went around HK and California challenging the established wing Chun masters . In the wong jack man fight he repeatedly insulted WJK then fought dirty by trying to finger spear WJK in the eye. He might have been a great martial artist and he might have molded into a better person as the years passed, but humility was never a Bruce Lee strong suit

I agree, it's a shame they're not that popular with collectors! (although I see this as a blessing; more for us collectors!)

Another point worth considering is that these cases aren't stainless but a plated steel. Still durable though, I've sanded a spare case I had while refinishing and did not encounter any worn plating.

Citizen actually made two versions of the bull head. One was a pot metal case with rounded sides. The other was the octagon shaped stainless steel case. If you look at the photo of the bullheads in my collection, those are all the stainless steel versions

Thanks buddy, I thought it looked a bit off. I presumed the plating had started to flake off. Is it supposed to be silver? I may send it off to Guy for a redo or try it myself.
