Default Reliable caseback opener for Seiko divers? Recommendations?

Would like to open a really tight caseback without major scratches . . . .

IMO the best option for really tight case backs is the Bergeon 5700 or one of the knock offs and for normal tight case backs one of Bry's 6 pin none marking openers.

Agreed. I just bought a knock-off 5700 and was pleasantly surprised with the build quality for the price (~$110usd).

I had a 7548 that appeared to have spent its life in a molasses factory and the case back wouldn’t yield to heat/cold, soaking, etc. The 5700 didn’t flinch and didn’t leave any tool marks.

Thanks! What brand would a knock-off be, for example, and where could I get one?

Just search 5700 case on ebay and loads will pop up for less than 100

All the knock offs appear to come from the same factory, mostly unbranded. Mine was slightly different than it appeared in the eBay listing (plastic base, a few anodized parts) but is functionally equivalent. I didn’t buy the cheapest version but shipping was “free”.

Aluminium-iron synthesis...what is that.

I suppose mine is mahogany-iron synthesis with a splash of plastic then.

I like the way you think!
This is very similar to my setup for stuck case backs.
