Default Hmm, still questions about the two different dials on these Seikomatic-R?

.

Woohoo! Snagged another of those rectangular Seikomatic-R, one month younger than my first! :-D

I really like the design and style of this watch model. I bought my first a week or so ago, I had never SEEN one before!

Here it is:

A bunch of other owners perked up and showed images of theirs. And we noticed that some, like another forum member's black 1968, does not have the Suwa symbol on the dial. I asked if this watch was perhaps produced by Daini and Suwa, but wouldn't it be odd for them to use the same movement??

"Perhaps it is because of the year?" someone suggested."

Well, the other day I saw this baby below being offered, another 1967 black Seikomatic-R 8305-5000, and look, the date is just one month younger "7 N ..." instead of "7 D ...". I guess that shoots down the "date" theory for the dial difference, right? Unless they made the change between November and December 1967 and back again in 1968. Would they do that?

And I just noticed there are also (at least) two versions of the dial text on the left, 1) "DIASHOCK 30J." and 2) "30 JEWELS"!!

Who knows? I guess Seiko might do anything, at anytime!! I'm back to thinking Daini vs Suwa, but what do I know? Could we tell from the movements?

Looking at the case back I would like to ask if this one is really from 67? I would rather date it 77 or even later. Just asking since I am no expert, but the casebacks from the sixties do look not that „plain“ to me. I would rather expect something more than just SS and the number.

Nah, it's 1967.

Your guess on the dial colors looks correct as there seems to have been just the two dial colors offered for sale. Here is a shot from the 1968 Volume 2 catalog.

This looks like it is a design based on the earlier Skyliner model. Here is a shot from the 1967 Vol2 Catalog.

I'm fairly sure they stopped using the Seikomatic-R 8305 before 1977.
