Default Blue Alpinist?

I love the Alpinist line and my SARB017 is my everyday wear. I only found out about the blue limited edition today. I like it, what do you all think? Another dilution of the brand by over enthusiastic marketing team? Or a sympathetic reissue of a classic? I'm surprised nobody has commented yet on this, or maybe I've just missed it.

Just do a search for Blue Alpinist. It was brought up a few days ago and on March 3rd as well.

Yeah, you missed it - and it's okay, you probably missed your chance to own one (at a reasonable price) as well

Same watch. Different dial. $200 more. Wait a second... $300 more... even $400 more !?

I think you missed it. There was much discussion/angst over this (at least at WUS, maybe not so much here) when it was released/sold out a couple of weeks ago.

I like it and apparently everybody else did, too. They sold out quickly.

It is a nice watch and the fact that Seiko did away with the gold hands + markers was what made me fall of the wagon..........

I have never been an Alpinist fan. Buttttt... I have already noticed the new model selling at a discount on the sales fora. I would recommend being patient and wait for a mint one to list at a price you are happy with

I think you might be the only one who isn't actively flipping it on the big auction site - it's unbelievable how high prices were going even within an hour of Hodinkee running out.

.

I was also late to hear about this watch. Sold Out. But a nice woman at Hodinkee said they should get another shipment of them "in the summer", and claimed I was on the list.

I hope not. Limited should stay limited, otherwise the early buyers get screwed. Not that it doesn’t go on.......

No, no, this is within the original limited release, like they got the first 1000 and they sold out and the other 959 will show up this summer.

Could you pay for it to secure your spot, or just a waiting list email?

It is only because it's limited that people bought two or more to profit on that the other buyers as a result get screwed, surely?

If that is your argument then I would see it as all the buyers out there that either a: couldn't get one for trying or b: had their orders cancelled, got screwed...but I don't.

However, I would laugh if Seiko released it as unlimited just to show how exploited those original buyers are in many ways. And to not piss off a whole load of people who genuinely wanted one to cherish but had their orders cancelled. I hope when the next wave comes in all those will get their watch. But I wonder how many of those orders will then be on Ebay a huge markup....

If true, that's a different story.
