Default Reproducing the elusive 300V11GN Crystal for 7018-7000/7001

Hello Guys,

Don't know if this is the correct part of the forum. If not, please place it in the right place, moderators.

Many of you know that finding an original crystal for the 7018-7000/7001 Daini Flyback Chronograph, the 300V11GN crystal, is like finding a needle in a haystack. I was trying to find one myself for 2 years before I could find one at a fellow collectors and forum members stash (you know who you are).

Based on MartinCRC information is that this crystal will fit also watches that use 300V04GNS, 300V07GNS and 300V16GNS crystals. So basically a lot of collectable King Seiko pieces.

I myself get a lot of requests about if I have this crystal in stock and often I have to disappoint the people that I don't have any and am looking for it myself.

Today I talked to one of my watchmakers and he talked that he could help out with reproducing this crystal (only the crystal, without the metal ring). The metal ring can be re-used.

He would send the old crystal of mine to have it reproduced, based on the dimensions.

What I want to ask you guys if there is an interest in these crystals here. If there is a lot of interest, I can place an order to make a reasonable amount of them.

What the price will be I don't know yet. This I will hear later this week or next week from my watchmaker.

Prices for the original (if you even can find one) is really high, so I would be asking a lower price on these.

If this will be a success and the quality of the crystal will be as good as that of Seiko themselves, possibly I would as him to also do that one some of the other really hard to find crystals.

If you are interested and would like to have one or more, leave a message in this thread. So if there will be enough interest, I will place an order for them.

Hoping for nice response.

Hi Vlad. I'm sure the community would welcome the option, but if you take a look at Martin's post here, swapping a bonded crystal out of its ring is no simple matter. You might find that only a hard core of Seiko guys are willing to try this.

There are hopefully plenty over here that are willing to do this. It will definitely help, as these is just an unfindable crystal. Thanks for the link.

If I had a watch that needed this crystal I'd be thanking you and ordering one, so hopefully there are enough others that want it to make it viable.

Hi Vlad,
The glass itself is the same as that used in the even more difficult to source 300V04GNS, 300V07GNS and 300V16GNS used in some of the more popular King Seiko models and so if a reasonably priced option could be made available, then it could serve the interests of a much broader range of models.

As to the 300V11GN, at the time I was working on my own 7018-7000 earlier this year, the glass appeared to be in plentiful supply from Cousins in the UK - indeed I bought about 4 or 5 of them, notionally to provide a source of replacement crystal as transplant candidates. I've thus far only done this on one occasion and so your proposal to develop a replacement source of the glasses could provide a permanent a stay of execution on the supply of 300V11GN's I have!

So a big fat yes please from me (but only if the price is right).
All the best
Martin

Martin, of course, if there is a demand for also other part number crystals, I could, if I have them, provide them the watchmaker to make the reproductions. So, if the crystal is basically the same as that of the 300V04GNS, 300V07GNS and 300V16GNS, it can then be used for these watches. If there will be more interest in these, as mentioned, I can make a batch of these to help you the community.

Put me on that list! I've been looking for the crystal.

Just happened to be wearing it today and would like to see the dial with more clarity.

Count me in. I do have got a NOS for my 7018, but I also have a 7018 case only with the ring that needs a crystal.

I'll post a list of people who are interested on these and also the amount. If you want more then 1, please send me a PM on how many want. I'll make an even better price if people want multiples.

Please put me on the list as well, Vlad.

I will be really happy if this reproduction project hopefully becomes reality and I am ready to take two crystals.

By the way - I once followed Martin's approach in changing the glass of a v-bonded crystal of a Seiko Jumbo and I can say it is possible without too much efforts :-)

Best wishes from Berlin, Germany,
jallova

UPDATE on the crystal:

Talked with the watchmaker when I was at his place. We looked at the crystal and compared it with the original one that I've managed to source for my own watch.

The crystal still needs a few adjustments with the height and the top being not yet up to par. He will be sending the information about the needed adjustments to his crystal maker.

The crystals will be made by hand. Please note that they will be without the metal ring (these are just too costly to be made). You can re-use the old metal crystal ring to put the new one in.

When there will be more information about them and also about the costs I will put them here.
