Default A few more mods from the old bench

I've had some spare time and parts recently so I was able to button up a couple of projects that have been in flux for the past few weeks.
First up the yellow 6309 SOXA was a colaborate effort between Jonathan and I....The case was a absolute basket case and I usually do all my own work, but I really didn't want to undertake the refinishing on this one. The previous owner had made a poor attempt in refinishing the case and had skewered the case lines a bit....This is where a consult with a wiser power comes in.......
You all may know that case refinishing is one of Jonathan's (Swedefreak) finest talents....(the man is an artist in this department)...Jonathan agreed to give the case a little love...(with a belt sander!) and when I mentioned that I would like the case to be mirror polished, Well there was some laughter on his part i'm sure but the results speak volumes of his beautiful work. Jonathan was also nice enough to loan me one of his Shark Mesh bracelets in the short term while I waited for mine to arrive from Will Jean.
The results of both Jonathan's treatment of the case along with another of his gorgeous Bubble Boy crystals mated with a freshly built movement that I finished of with a yellow soxa dial, chapter ring and insert sourced from Jake B. as well as S type hands from Harold makes for a happy summer watch.

The second watch (6309 Explorer GMT) is another product of recent spare parts aquired from Jake.
The case was purchased as part of a parts lot...It looked decent but very dirty/aged.....The real surprise was when it arrived, The case turned out to be a complete and very restorable 6306-7001 minus the movement.
The case received a minor clean-up, New gaskets from Jonathan along with a new double domed sapphire crystal with blue A/R and stainless GMT insert sourced from Harold.
The watch is powered by a freshly rebuilt 23 jewel 6349 movement that I have fitted with a 10watches "seamaster" dial and orange plongeur hands from Harold.
A brown Hirsch liberty resides on the watch for the time being.
The watch is still a "work in progress" as I plan to modify the movement with the parts and 24hr hand that I salvaged from a dead 6117 gmt as well as modify/machine the center wheel bridge to accept a hacking lever from a 6306 movement.

Man Shawn, those look great! Funnily enough, I had one almost exactly like the GMT (including the Hirsch Liberty strap) but sold it a while back. Might have to make another!!

Man, you became a professor in the modding department. :-\

OUTSTANDING WORK!! Simply put.

The yellow soxa 6309 looks very Eterna Kontik-ish with the mirror polished cushion case + shark mesh;

The 6309 GMT work in progress is goooorgeous, too. Real awesome work, indeed.

When you add Jake B's and Yobokies' parts + Jonathan's expertise + Dcso211's artistry talent = flabbergasting 6309s!!! Math never fails!

Congratulations, man!

Pretty soon you will have people sending you their watches for some modding work. Next thing we know we will have a new modder for custom work on contract, onboard. O:-) Please, say so.

Regards,
CHRIS

Thanks guys...I really appreciate the positive comments, It really makes the time and effort worth it.

Believe it or not, I actually have 4 more built that I just haven't had time to photograph and post....hopefully within the next couple days I'll throw them up on the forum for you.

My lovely wife got in on the action as well and she has finally gotten around to building another one, this time she modded one for herself using an SKX031 as a base.....I'll let her introduce that one.

Till later,
Shawn

As always, really great looking mods Sir Shawn

I'm want to get into this too, doing a 6309 mod, but haven't found time for it yet ;D

Great mods for sure Shawn. The yellow soxa is the "bees knees!" I really like the hands on it. Aren't those bubble crystals terrific?

Russ,
My friend, Your beautiful yellow Soxa was in fact my inspiration for this one, I like the yellow even more than my orange version. I tried a couple different inserts, but just kept coming back to the oem style black for contrast. The S- type hands seemed like a natural for the dial and has a very different effect as opposed to the Doxa hands.
Bubble boys....well this is my forth one and I just can't seem to get away from them. They're just awesome

I'm with you Shawn when it comes to yellow vs orange. I recall when Noah first introduced these dials that was the choice I believe. Since I already had an SKX011 & an OK in the stable, yellow seemed the obvious choice, But more than that it was/is the shade of yellow that hooked me. It's very close to the yellow we see on the Corvettes! Funny enough, after I had placed my order, Noah rolled out the blue soxa dial, so that kind of put me in state of post cognitive dissonance. The remedy? I bought a blue soxa dial for an SKX case, but I digress....

I ordered the yellow chapter ring as well but since my local watch-maker was reticent about installing the chapter ring without busting the crystal, I suggested he leave the original black one in. Once it all came together I was pretty happy but over time, the mod saw less & less wrist time until Jonathan rolled put those bubble crystals and you displayed them in your mods. Right then an there I knew the fix (another remedy?) was in! All this time though, I was contemplating a change of hands as well but since I'm such a cheap bastard I thought let's just go with the bubble crystal and see if it works. So far so good, but I have to say this latest post of yours has got me thinking again.

You've heard the term MAD for Mutually Assured Destruction, right? Well in our case and many others like it in the WIS world I believe we should adopt a new acronym like MEC for Mutually Enabled Construction!

Damm you Shawn, "You Had Me At Yellow"

Two great looking watches for sure and that SOXA takes my breath away. I love the DOXA-style and I also enjoy tinkering with my watches... You've got me thinking...

Shawn, that soxa is just georgeous! Is it possible to be "yellow" with envy, or must I be green?
