Unfortunately we are stuck with the format we have so all we can ask is that sellers/traders take just a very little time out of your life schedule to try and conform with the simple rules in place, thank you

Tough love Tiger. Folks forget, a quick delete is a great reminder.

I actually was guilty of it myself a few months ago, would've understood completely.

Sorry and understand the PITA, but unfortunately modern society tends to be a me first you come later affair. Self interest is above all else. Just delete, they'll figure it out. The average member tends not to be a chronic abuser. Those that want to run a business should make other arrangements JMHO. I too appreciate the time & effort the Mods put forth. As a one time forum member used to say "onward through the fog"

As a newbie to this site, but familiar with other sites, I'd say this one is being run well.

You have admin and mods who care about the site.

The rules for trading are not hard to follow.

Delete without warning can be harsh, but to let anything go in a free for all will end up with a forum that is all over the place, with nobody being able to find anything in a logical place in the future.

Delete.

This has been brought up so many times. Rules are simple to follow.

Delete if they don't follow protocol.

The thing is, this is a community of collectors/WIS etc and the mods don't want to delete a post if we can help it because some of us (not all) put a fair amount of effort into posting so we would much prefer that members take that little bit of extra time and get it right and as already said it is easy.

We will keep deleting but would rather not

The thing is, re-posting this is accomplishing little. The same chronic abusers are still chronically abusing. Some have 9 active posts over 2 pages others just cheat a little with 6 or 7. When you have 4 or 5 perhaps more posers filling the the trade forum while running small businesses it is unfair to regular users. Yet nothing is done as to deletions. Why bother re-posting this. I think public opinion has been stated clearly enough. Don't want to bang on about this but no police equals no speed limit.

I agree with the delete thing. However, John, could you copy and paste the text at least, links to photos obviously not, of a post from a sales thread and PM the OP with it, stating why it was deleted?

I'm sure it would be a bit of a pain, but I guess a template message to paste in about the deletion and then providing the text might be less of a kick in the teeth?

Second time it happens then maybe no courtesy given!

Disclaimer :

I haven't run a forum or been a mod and my advice here is more than likely bad!

Thus far we have gotten along pretty well with "self-policing", and have to balance making sure rules are respected with creating more work for ourselves than is necessary. As an aside, it is beyond frustrating to me at least, that in the computer age we are in, we cannot have a trading forum where it is impossible to make a post that breaks the rules (like a template form for new posts that requires price in title, must include pictures, and must have 50 posts, etc before the post is put up). The man-hours manually policing these infractions is staggering and a little dis-heartening, after seeing how often it occurs on a daily/weekly/monthly/yearly basis, because we can't program the computer well enough to do the work for us. But that is where we are, either the technology is not there with our software, or we don't have tech-savvy enough volunteers/over-lords to enact it. So we must all live with that frustration, for the good that the trading post otherwise provides.

Your specific examples are honestly up for debate, as the rules state 5 active posts, which I interpret to mean if you sell or withdraw an item, it doesn't count as an active post. Most regulars who've been here for a while seem to honor that. But honestly I feel like you'd have to make a detailed case against offenders, checking their last 5 sales posts one by one, verifying that they are are not sold or withdrawn, checking the time stamps... kind of seems like a lot of work that often ends in finding out they are still within the rules, huh? But if you have the time to make such a case and present it to us, by all means it will be reviewed. Before I delete trading post ads I make sure I have the facts straight (as I don't want to obstruct honest posters who aren't in the wrong), and this fact-gathering can take more effort than time and energy sometimes allows, especially when it concerns rules such as the ones you mention.

In closing, to answer "why bother re-posting this thread?", Not speaking for him but I think it is Tiger's subtle way of bringing it up to the top of the pile for newer members to see and take to heart, kind of like an informal periodic memo. We don't want to seem cold and uncaring when deleting infractions without comment, but engaging with those who mis-post takes a lot more time and effort, and it seems like the consensus still shown in this thread is that most of you understand this and don't take it personally.

Create a template and/or a check list with required items, if failure to comply then delete. Also, I would like to have separate for "sale" and "want to buy"sections.

I like Thomas' idea, only if it's not an undo burden for the mods. Mods don't need any extra work. Which reminds me, Thanks for all you do!

Up until a few months back i used to send a PM to offenders that forgot to include the price in the title, and ask them to edit the post accordingly. I was aware that maybe some new software was possibly forthcoming, plus, I have had rather a lot on my plate lately, with Mrs Biggin being seriously ill, so ive held back a bit.
I know a lot of effort is put into the FS posts by you guys and i feel a bit of a jobsworth in deleting the post because of an oversight, but i dont have the time to send umpteen PM's and monitor the errant FS post's.
The easiest and quickest remedy is to delete the post, sorry.

Let me add an important bit:

When I go to modify the title of a previous post (yes, using "Go Advanced") often but not always the changes only show up when you click into the post, but not when you look at the Forum Listings page.

Active right now I have this post for a watch I just sold, it looks as if it is an active For Sale in the Listings Page but not when you click in. Look closely at Example 2, it even shows how it reads: :FS: Seiko 6119-6020...." up top (2nd line in screen shot) and then below the revision showing "SOLD: Seiko6119-6020..."

So if the Mods are not clicking through to the full post, errors about how many 'active for sale posts' by any given member may be mis-leading.

Forum software bug in my book. If I am doing something wrong please tell me and this might apply to others as well.

I agree Jon, sometimes when editing the title with the advanced edit it doesent show up but with a little tinkering it normally will, delete something in the title and write SOLD for example.
