Rules are right.
But I understand your frustration.

Is the answer simply not to just 'red flag' the post?

Quoting Al Murray.

"Where would be if we didn't have rules?"

"FRANCE!"

IMO, Keep the rules and publicly flog those that flout them

I wonder if it is just a small group of sellers that are breaking the rules repeatedly, making it look like a widespread problem.

OK, so, I read the rules through before posting a WTB and figured I was OK (despite low post count), as the rules do not seem to be so strict on WTB. Or, was I wrong..?? Am happy to be wrong and have MY thread pulled if need be (probably breaking the rules by referring to my WTB here anyway)

I would suggest designing a pop up box that when the submit button is clicked states "This post will be deleted without warning if it does not comply with the SCTF rules". The pop up must be answered with either "Review my post" or "Yes it complies"

If the post breaks the rules just delete it.

I don't know if this would be possible with the forum software or a headache to design but may work. No more PMing explanations to offenders.

Good idea that Mike. I put my hands up to my fair share of mistakes while posting, more through carelessness than malice so a review often helps.

Plus should we not help the Mods out by PMing the incorrect posts ourselves?

that is a good idea, but its easy enough to just put that rule in the trade forum section with the other ones.
cheers

We have in the past asked the software engineers if they could do a template and other software types of fix but they have been unable to do what we require.

Members do contact us at times and advise when when they spot posts that don't conform to the rules if we have missed them.

As of today's posts zero tolerance it will be, we are training our new puppy at the moment and a light tap on the nose works wonders when he doesn't follow the rules

just curious, of these non-conforming posts..... what is the most common "error" that sellers seem to be making?

Delete.

Save time for the mods and the rules are simple and clear enough.
Why bother wasting time for some, who doesn't take the time himself to read through the rules?

Thanks for keeping the SCTF tidy all these while.

Delete. Mistakes happen, but they don't happen nearly as often when there are rules that are enforced...

Delete. Once the rule breaker works out why no one seems to be showing any interest in their amazing bargain, they'll soon put in more effort.

I'm for just deleting them straight away too. This is not hard. If you are selling something how can someone buy it if they do not know what the price is? I think all it will take is for someone to have a post deleted once and they will never forget again. I make mistakes in my post but I always proof read my post as soon as I click the post button in the WTB threads and fix my mistakes within minutes.
The mods have more than enough work to do than reminding people to price the items they whish to sell.

I was guilty of unintentionally omitting the fs and price from my recent ad and got a polite pm from John which I acted on, I will know for next time, in mitigation I guess we all use multiple fora and I think this is the only one that has this particular rule, its fine by me but I would imagine people who dont include them in the title just plain forget to do so and not out of anything more than that, if it causes more trouble than the thing its trying to help ( whatever that may be? then I say ditch the rule, Im saying that as a moderator on another forum so I know how much of a pita it can be to enforce the rules... Would not having the fs and price in the title really be a big deal? Im not saying it is or isn't, Im saying the question should be thought about and weighted against the hassle it causes John and team.

If the poster do not abide to the rules (which are very simple and of common sense), I think it is now the time to delete those that does not follow them. Just like the rules says.

IMHO, part of the problem is that the ads are free-form (i.e: no specific template). I am not saying I know what the workaround is, but this would involve adopting an electronic form which the seller/buyer needs to fill up.
The field where the price is would then be permanent, with an edit button that allows the price to be changed, but the original price still displayed.
