Default So I'm in Japan...

Landed in Tokyo tonight and was able to scurry down to Yodobashi camera in Shinjuku before they closed. Some questions/comments:

1. Our strong USD (and Euro which I sort of get paid in) is awesome over here right now.

2. I really like the SBGW035 manual wind Grand Seiko. With all the discounts, it comes to a little over $2800 which seems like a seriously great deal. Does anyone have one of these? Thoughts? Movement comments?

3.The discount shops do not have any of the high beat GS's...not allowed to discount them apparently. I saw the LE GS Quartz anniversary model. Unbelievable case...I just am not into the movement.

4. I've seen the Spring Drive tuna for about 267,000 JPY before 8% passport discount and another 5% if you use Visa...not bad.

Anyhow, if anyone has any thoughts on the SBGW035, I'd love to hear...

Pics during the weekend when I hit the Seiko museum and other places....

Mike

Looking forward to pics. Don't know anything about SBGW035 but it looks beautiful.

I think the SBGW035 is an amazingly finished watch like all of the GS models. The hand wind movement is nice and the display back is a nice addition so you can spend time viewing it closely.

For the price it does seem like a great deal. My only word of reservation would be the relatively small size in comparison to many current watches. I think we have started to see the trend for very large watches begin to move back to more normal sizes. If you are happy with the size then I would say go for it.

Enjoy your trip and I look forward to seeing some of your shots.

I will be in Tokyo at the end of the month, please update if any new models release.

By the way how do you get a chance to join the Seiko museum trip? Do you book in advance?

Booking for the museum can be done over the phone. You can give them a call and arrange a time that is suitable. Remember that the museum is closed on public holidays, Mondays and the Tuesdays after public holidays.

The museum website and booking information can be found at http://museum.seiko.co.jp/en/

If you are ever in Tokyo it is definitely worth taking the time to visit.
