Default Restored Citizen Promaster Aqualand

Hello to all.
To begin, I was given an aqualand as a gift in 1991 and it has plagued me ever since. Well, plague with regard to fueling a non clinical case of OCD. For 15 years worth of dives as an instructor this watch held rock solid. One day I decided to replace the batteries myself and low and behold, I broke the stem and ripped the case back gasket. Also I did find some liquid inside of the watch, whether it was water or oil I don't know. Some time passed and I sent my friend in to COA only to be told that they no longer service these watches. I was given the choice of 50% off any new watch that they had available or get my watch back. Even though the anniversary edition aqualand was available their half off was the same price that I could buy at any store, well please send me my watch back. The watch sat in a drawer for years while I searched for any info that I could gather about the aqualand. I came across a couple of members, Neillo and Longbike and many others, who were generous with their knowledge concerning aqualands. For years I searched out the online auctions and local flea markets for donor specimens. I toiled and tinkered until I got pretty good at disassembling the watches down to the movements. Now, my movement gets stuck because of dry lube or tiny speck of dirt and the material backing the hands is deteriorating so I made the choice to find a pristine dial and hands to replace so I really didn't need to go further than the movement. Plus it scares the heck out of me. So, after prepping and sealing up my home in south Florida for the onslaught of hurricane Irma I decided I needed to calm down so I pulled out my old friend and the donors and got to work. After being motionless for 9 plus yrs and after some sweat and strained eyes, because of loss of power, my old friend had a heartbeat once again. With the exception of the movement which includes the dial and hands she is as original as can be. I have been asked by several friends about the reason I didn't change out the bezel ring insert since I went thru so much to bring it back. Well I like the battle scars and as I exclaim, she wears them well. I did have the original stem reattached to the crown by the way of a watchmaker and an extension but I don't trust it long term. And a donor case back gasket has been installed but it has a flat spot so I don't trust it either for anything more than a shower. I will search out these needed parts and then take it in to have it pressure tested. One day it will again be used as it was intended. I would really like to thank Neillo and Longbike and others who have discussed these watches over the years because with out them I would never have thought to attempt the repairs myself. To others who may be reading this as a result of a search engine inquiry, get as much knowledge as you can by reading, asking and reading some more and you too will have your favorite aqualand back on your wrist and a beaming smile on your face.

Well, this thread is an interesting contrast to my first post. We all have to start somewhere! Great read, nice to see people coming together in the interest of a common favored watch series! Looks like I've found the right place to dig into and learn from.

Aloha ,
Thanks folks and but to try and help when I can. I love these and have found out I can do them too so when help is needed .. " Why Not Right ".
A lot of them are real Beauties yet but not running so when they do run again, they get to be like they originally were made to be.
Hope he gets this Beauty going again and for use it looks great to see another one of these.
Aloha Louis

All I can say is Louis is the man!!! To be so unselfish in every way with regard to these little jewels is just unheard of any more. His knowledge, patience and charity are reasons why he is so respected in this community. To you sir, I must take my hat off!! And oh yeah watch your mail in the next week or so for a package from Florida

Aloha and Thank you Sir ,
Well Sir,
That beloved watch can not work and still be leaking ..... Right ?
The part is for use and since you have use for it why not.
I had the resource and you needed resources to find and that was it.
I love these and when I might be able to help out in different ways I
always try too.
Hope it turns out good, for you and it will be done and getting wet very soon.
Aloha and God Bless
Louis
