Here's one of my first ever mods.
Started this out with a 6309-7040 case; lightly blasted with aluminum oxide for a faint texture.
Then coated in mil grade PVD black. The end result comes out as a graphite color with a smooth finish that resists smudges, prints, grease, oil, etc.
I did two of these and they are nearly complete and close enough that I can now show all of you some photos.
I'm still working out the details on the bezel. The one I'm currently using may not be my final choice but it works well for the photos as it illustrates where I want to land as to bezel design.
All comments welcome!
Mike

There is a shop about half a mile from my house. I looked for a place for several months and found this shop after calling so many others. Strange that it's so close to me. I've now got to know them and they like the work I'm bringing in so they accomodate my small amounts of work. I was thinking of offering this as a service to others in the forum that might be interested in getting coating work done.
As with other PVD work that I have seen, the color and texture will always depend on how the metal is prepared. The crowns are a polished finish so they come out shiny for a nice contrast to the case but for the other parts, I prefer the satin or flat colors as they are less reflective in the bright sun so for these, the color is close to graphite.
I have one more that I'll post over the weekend as it should be close to completed by this Saturday.

I'll post more Blackfin photos this weekend. I have one more that should be complete this afternoon.
I'm taking a little time off after that but will try to get a couple more pictures up.
Just to let everyone know, I'm having a bit of a challenge regarding the bezel.
This one really doesn't fit properly. I have possibly four options that will work, but I like this one best.
I can use a standard replacement bezel that's finished and coated to match the case color or I can use the one shown in the photos. The other options are using bezels from the SBBN007 or SBBN023.
The 007 tuna bezel would need to be blasted and coated and then, of course, I would need to find a proper insert. The 023 tuna bezel is already black, but its a shiny black so it would require some kind of light sanding or blasting to take down the shine. Either of those two bezels would fit properly though.
I'm leaning towards the 007 tuna bezel.
Anybody with advice on this, let me know!
Thanks,
Mike
