Orient Ray II
I just bought an Orient Ray II and - after some initial teething pains - love it. I am a fan of Japanese watches and was looking for either a solar or automatic dive watch that would fit my relatively small wrist. After reading or watching numerous reviews I opted for the Orient Ray II for several reasons. First, it has a windable, hackable automatic movement. Second, it has a beautiful dial with applied indices, chrome surround on the day/date apertures and a clean design. Third, at 41.5mm it still fits my wrist. And fourth, reviewers consistently praise Orient's build quality and design.
When the watch first arrived, however, I had my doubts. The bezel was very stiff and difficult to rotate, especially since the outer edges were so narrow. It was bad enough that I showed it to my local jeweler who services Seikos to see if there was a problem. He told me that it was normal, albeit a bit stiff and recommended that I lubricate it with wax covered dental floss. After working the bezel and running dental floss between the bezel and case, it is better.
I switched out the rubber strap with a nice zulu strap and the watch looks great. There was nothing wrong with the rubber strap; I just prefer zulus on my dive watches. I have attached a bad phone picture which does not do the watch justice.
I'll follow-up in a couple weeks with an accuracy report.
