Default Orient CVZ00001B Ana-Digi

Authored by sutto

I received my black (dark grey) dial Orient Ana-Digi last week and since I'm wearing it today I figured I'd go ahead and give my first impressions. I'm no watch expert so these are just my thoughts on the watch so far.

The watch came in a nice black and white box with "ORIENT" on the top. It was on a nice white cushion and the warranty paperwork and instructions were underneath.

I really like the dark grey color of the dial, it's a nice change from the normal black dials on some of my other dials. It has a tachymeter that is not functional, I wish they'd left that off. However, you can still calculate speeds with it by timing how long it takes to go a certain distance and then looking at the correlating seconds marker on the dial. I'd still prefer to have something else there that was actually functional. I like the arabic numbers (12, 3, 6, 9).

The bezel is a unidirectional ratcheting design with arabic numerals for 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 and dash marks for 5, 15, 25, 35, 45 and 55. It slopes down and away from the flat crystal. It has a great feel to it and lines up perfectly with the numbers on the dial.

Hands and Crown:
I like the design of the hands; they are clear and easily legible against the dial. The lume is alright, nothing like my Citizen Nighthawk but much better than any of my Invictas. The second hand lines up perfectly with the markers (a big deal to me on quartz watches).

The crown is gnarled and screws down to the case nicely. It is polished on the end but I would have liked to see a logo there. However, for the price, it's hard to complain...it looks great.

The analog portion of the quartz movement is nice and like I said before, the second hand lines up perfectly. I am still trying to figure out how everything works in the digital portion because the instructions are not very helpful. The digital readouts are clearly legible during the day but not at all at night. You can select what type of information you want displayed; I have mine set to show the time at the top and the date and day at the bottom. It was easy to set the digital time to match the analog time perfectly, although this is not an automatic feature of the watch (each time display works independently of the other). The digital functions include time (12 or 24 hour), day/date, chronograph, countdown and alarm. The alarm is louder than I expected, though probably not enough to wake this deep sleeper. There may be other features but I am still trying to figure that out.

Case and bracelet:
The case is nice but slightly smaller than I expected it to be. The pushers are located at 4, 8 and 10 o'clock and are used for start/stop/reset, select/reset/split and mode, respectively. The bracelet is stainless steel with solid end links. It is a little lighter than I expected but it feels great on the wrist. It uses a deployant clasp with a push button release. I've seen some pictures of this watch on a black strap with white stitching and looks great, I think I may do that myself.

Price & Conclusion:
I bought this watch from SNBC for $137 shipped. I feel it's an amazing value to have a watch of this quality for that kind of money. It is unique but also looks very similar to a much more expensive Swiss watch I'm sure most are familiar with. I'm very happy I picked this one up.
