Default Orient (Blue) Ray

Just got my new Orient Blue Ray in the mail today. Boy, that was fast. Ordered yesterday (Amazon) around 5 PM and it arrived today via UPS with free shipping at 3:30 PM.

I owned an Orient Mako for about a week in Oct. last year, but changed my mind and returned it. The Ray has applied markers and no numerals. It's 41mm so a perfect size I think for my 7" wrist. The bracelet is a bit different from the Mako and I like its design... a mixture of brushed SS with a little polished sections in between the links. The clasp is okay and similar to the Mako's clasp. Had to take out 3 links and it fits perfectly with the micro-adjust set in the center hole. It's only 1mm smaller than my Seiko SKX009 but sure seems smaller on the wrist. I think it's the beveled bezel that gives that effect.

Here are the required pictures: (sorry for some reflection on one or two of them).

The lume is pretty good. The Blue highlight shows up only in certain lighting... which I really like.

I got a Seiko Jubilee bracelet and put it on my Orient Ray. The original bracelet looks great but wasn't that comfortable. It wouldn't stay in place on my wrist where I like it and the clasp doesn't open up wide enough for me to get it on and off easily. The clasp does say Seiko not Orient, but who cares.

It took some adjusting to get the folded links to fit snug enough. Also, the fat spring bars don't fit into the Orient lugs as the holes are too small. So I had to use the original spring bars that came with the Ray. Also had to close down the bracelet links some to fit the smaller spring bar. We'll see how it goes. It sure is comfortable as I've always liked the Jubilee bracelet.

Here are a few pics:

Thanks for the comments. I really like Jubilee bracelets.

I modified it just a bit more. I mentioned that the fat spring bars wouldn't fit the Orient case so I had to use the thinner original bars. This caused the end links not to fit close enough to the case. So I stopped at hobby shop yesterday and looked for some very thin brass or aluminum tubing. 3/32" (or 2.5mm) is what I thought I needed. Unfortunately they only had the 3/32" in plastic. So after drilling out the center of this plastic tubing some, I cut a section and slid it over the thinner spring bar. No the spring bars are just as thick as they need to be for the jubilee bracelet.

the case looks great on both bracelets, but I still prefer the Orient stock band. It's just a matter of taste
