Default Review of Orient CEM65002D - Mako

What can I say about the Orient Mako, honestly words fail to convey how I felt when I first opened the box. First of all the package itself was FAR more than I expected, not only the box but also extra links (in the watch bracelet itself) as well as the velvet gift bag and a full compliment of instructions.
Substance, that is the first word that comes to mind when I had it in my hand for the first time ever. This watch weighs far more, in a good solid way, than I would have expected. And the gorgeous face is not done any justice by the superb photographs to be found on the web.
The second hand sweeps by with silent resilience and gives a clue as to the mechanical goings on that reside behind its solid case back. The crown is solid and unscrewed with authority. The day change selector also felt solid on the face at the 2 o’clock position. The screw down crown and day selector add to the beauty of substance that is the solid case.
Ladies and gentlemen, I am not a man of means by anyone’s standards, though with the Mako abreast of my wrist I am reassured of the quality of my possessions rather than the quantity of them. As solid a feeling as my 21 year marriage is what comes to mind, along with added security of the twin locking bracelet inspires confidence with the knowledge that this watch will not go astray.
It has been a longtime coming, but my first automatic is a confidence inspiring one with Orient. Now I truly appreciate the fact that there are watches, and then there are timepieces.
Have no doubt ladies and gentlemen, if ever you have entertained thoughts of a well crafted watch, then the Orient Mako is deserving of both your attention and consideration.
With a 21 jewel movement, solid link bracelet and twin screw down selectors the Orient Mako truly is watch of purpose and substance.

Sincerely,
Ruben Alonzo Aceves

I live South Africa and we do not really have access to Orient watches. If you do get one for sale at a jewelers it is 3 to 4 times the price that I can get it from the net. Do you have a suggestion as to which would be the best if I had to choose between a cem 6500 or a cem 7500?

Check out Orient watches on utube for some good overviews. I got a 7500 Mako II a couple weeks ago and am very impressed with it. Was $159 on Amazon through Island Watch in Long Island.

Good build quality in my opinion, decent bracelet also. Solid watch overall.

I also recently got a Seiko 009 Pepsi dial on the Jubilee bracelet. Was $180 from Amazon. I like this watch also, but did not care for the cheap feel of the bracelet and replaced the bracelet right away with a Strapcode "SuperOyster" bracelet, again from Amazon ($55) and this completely upgraded the watch in my opinion.

I like both watches quite a bit, but the Orient was cheaper and "good to go" right out of the box (no need to upgrade any of it to my liking).

Hope the pic of the white faced Mako II comes through...

I had a MAKO a while back. Great watch for the money, but it was replaced by my SKX007. I'm starting to look for another one.

Personally, I own a CEM6500 as I prefer the lume of it.
