Default Citizen Promaster BN0100-51E a cat's eye view

^-^ Wiskers,

After selling my blue Seiko BFK kinetic due to its large bulk and the battery running flat due to Poll's massive rotation schedule I saw Bob's
(the naughty one) new black BFK he was proudly showing off. I really wanted a black BFK but knowing it is too large for me I decided for this Citizen Eco-Drive instead.

The watch was purchased from Creation watches for the reasonable sum of Ģ116 that includes DHL shipping from Singapore, impressively it was ordered on the Monday and arrived the following Wednesday.

Out of the box it was not running but waving it in front of the window for a minute saw it fire up and ticking at 2 second intervals and a further 20 minutes in murky Uk light saw it ticking along a 1 second intervals, so I assume the charging must be pretty efficient.

The watch dimensions are still fairly big but it is less massy than the BFK and sits a lot lower. After wearing it for a few hours I think its going to be comfortable.

The quality is par for the price I would say and in comparable to something like a Stargate or BFK.

The fitted solid stainless steel bracelet also has solid endpieces and pin and split collet link adjustment. If you have large wrists this will suit nicely, I had to remove seven links to make it wearable, I could get the closed bracelet over by clenched fist! The deployment clasp is fairly bulky but does it's job as a divers watch by incorporating a substantial ratcheting extension.

The hands and indices have white lume that glows blue, strangely Citizen did not match the bezel pip as that glows green but never the less the glow is adequate and lasts at an intensity for 3 to 4 hours without any pre-charging to the usual Seiko standard.

The rotating bezel is a bit of a surprise. Being spoilt by Seiko divers of similar price it only ratchets at one second intervals, it does the job but does not feel as nice.

I let the dial and hands and the case shape speak for thenselves

The vital dimensions:-
Diameter including crown 45.3mm (screwed down)
front to back 48.23mm overall lughorns
Lug width 22.8mm
Thickness 11.5mm
Clasp width 20mm
Dial/glass diameter 33mm

There are some other Citizens I like, stay tuned folks

BTW, can anyone confirm that the bracelet does indeed have a ratcheting extension?

Mike, you mean like the Tuna and MM bracelet?

Thanks!

May I ask if you preferred this one over the BFK since you sold it as well?

Nice looking piece Mike. Although I'm not a fan of skeleton hands, the hour marker on this one is terrific. A nice refreshing blend........think I'll go have a coffee now!

Hi Time, the ratcheting is incorporated in the other end of the clasp mechanism compared to the MM and Tuna. One of the reasons I did not keep the Citi was the bulky and over complicated clasp.

I sold the BFK and Citizen because I could not see myself wearing them but out of the two the BFK would get my preference if it was not so heavy.

I have always liked this one as a great affordable diver. The bracelet seems to be very well made, but I think I would go for the rubber strap with fitted ends. It just looks awesome.

This is a dark blue version.

Hello All
there are actually 2 versions of this watch known as the "Excalibur"

BN0100-51E (has Japanese movement "Japan Mov't" on dial) US version
BN0101-58E (wholly made in Japan) "Made in Japan" on dial - JDM/Euro version

they are identical except for fine print on dial...manufacturing location... and the price

I'm thinking of picking up the ladies version, and if that goes well, maybe the full-sized version for myself...

Hello All,
According to my taste the bracelet is really looks very cool, nicely machined and solid build, creates a perfect funktional combination with the watch itself.
