Default Citizen H500-S026989 Chrono

Hi
I have always like the looks and the functions of Chronographs but being a Watchmaker - I hate working on them!

Having been a watchmaker for Citizen here in New Zealand (I was one on of the two hardworking guys at the bench) I've always liked (most of) Citizens products and especially the Eco Drives.

I saw this baby when I was searching ebay USA for more watches to buy, do up and sell here.

It has a nice slim case and a simple look to it, with just the knurled crown to give it a touch of macho

It had no strap and worse ??? - it had a smashed glass. Worse for the owner but good for me as he's had a quote from Citizen USA for over $60 for a new glass (and possible dial replacement). The case was marked where the glass had been smashed too.
He was selling it because he didn't want to pay the $ to repair it.

The seller wouldn't sell outside of the States so I contacted my friend in the US of A and got her to bid on it.
She did good
He posted it to her (someone on the way had attempted to open it ) and she posted it on to me.

All up I think it cost me about $65 NZ and it would've sold here for close to $400 NZ.
I popped it out of the case, cleaned up the glass (dial fine), ordered a generic 1mm glass to fit (original 1.5mm but I can't easily get them).
I sanded the marked area and buffed the case. I can't even tell where the damage was.
I glued the glass in.
I often wear it when I'm training for cycling. I noticed the glass steamed up a bit. Out of case, water pressure test - hmm, no water in it. Re case it up....its never happened again.
Strap - I got the most basic velcro strap out of my stock, fitted it and been happy with it ever since. Ok, so its not the sexiest strap but its comfortable and dries out fast.

Usually with such a watch deal I'd flog it off but I really like this so its staying with my other two high rotation of my wrist watches.

Paul

I bought one of these new a few years back, and it has become my main "everyday" watch. Easy to read and operate when timing operations at work, it has been a great time-piece. The only problems I've had have been self-induced: If I'm not wearing it - it needs to hang out somewhere that it can soak up some sunlight. Putting it in the jewelery box is a big mistake. Loss of the chronographic functions are your first clue that it needs to see the sun for a bit. All in all, a lot of watch for the money!

That is certainly a clean utility almost military look... great features and it won't beat you up wearing it. Nice!
