have bought 3 jdm's on amazon with no problem whatsoever. actually returned one to Japan with no problem. scary but just great businessmen. warranty is different but in my entire life I have never had a problem with my watches. granted I am 3 years into it and rotate through my collection but with careful selection all should be ok. shipping on these watches has been quicker than promised. some jdm companies warehouse at amazon which leads to really fast delivery.

I recently bought a SARX27 on ebay, and am extremely happy with it; this is the one with the large white enamel dial. i like the looks of the Alpinist, but to me, the compass dial is a pointless addition. If it were replaced with a rotatable interval ring, that would be great.

Cheers,
Dez

Picked up a SEIKO SARB017 recently as well. I had one a few years back and also got the OEM bracelet back then. Personally I wasn’t impressed with the bracelet and the Alpinist together. The new Angus Jubilee looks really good to me and substantial quality this time around (I have yet to get one). I just love the green dial and quality build of the Alpinist I wanted to get another ad an all around watch. The announcement of it being discontinued just meant I had to make my purchase a little sooner than expected. I have been wearing it on a NATO while I am trying to determine the loss and gain of time it averages per day. I’ve had it less than a week now.

Before getting the Alpinist, I was pretty much wearing the SARB033 daily. Love the size, the quality feel and accuracy of the movement with a see through case back.

Even though it’s not technically a JDM model, I also own a 2nd generation Seiko Orange Monster was not available here in Canada. Mine was shipped from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

I have had the opportunity to buy from Higuchi, Chino Watch and Seiya which were the main JDM sellers before. My first experience was with Higuchi who was very good at accommodating my requests. I found that whatever queries I had, he would find the models I was interested in and quote me a price or tell me when it would be available. From my experience he did not have an online store though so I had communicate with him one on one via email. After that I went with Chino Watch and Seiya who list their models, prices and stock on an online store so it was easier for me to just go ahead and purchase things when I was ready. They could probably also source other models that are not listed on their site but are available in the Japanese market. This was several years ago, but there is a lot more places to get JDM model timepieces now. I recently got a couple off eBay who seem to also have their own stores or websites. One recently was based out of Hong Kong for my SARB017 and another was from Japan which I think also sells fishing equipment for a SKX009K2.

As to why I like these JDM models, I just find that they are nicer than what We have here or what I have seen around in the stores in terms of automatic watches. Honestly I haven’t looked through many brick and motor shops unless I pass by in the shopping centres, but when I did, they didn’t really catch my attention like these other models did. Being on these forums and having internet communities also helps fuel the ability to get my hands on watches that wouldn’t normally be available to me unless I were to physically travel to other countries myself.

I hope some of that helps.
One other thing to take note of is that there are some quality control issues with some models that are known within the watch circles. Buying watches without seeing them can come with some risk, but also some of these SEIKO models are also known to having alignment issues with dials, chapter rings and other things like that.

Good luck and I hope some of this information helps you with your decisions.

You very rarely get the full package though.
The ones I've had from them have always come in generic boxes with no manuals, cards etc.

I got it i a watch etui with all the papers, labels, guarantee. i think they order it in bigger quantities, so it is cheaper for them; so watches are sold without a box cause there isn´t any.
I dont mint though, I keep my watches in a bigger watch box (for 10) rather then "one watch/one box" so if I can get a better price on a watch without a box, I ll go for it...
Wouldnt you agree?

I always liked the SARG015 but it's quite difficult to find a piece for a reasonable price.

I dont see the difference with my "K" models, my 4R36 from a non JDM model runs like a champ, better then any other JDM 6R15
