Default ORIENT Crystal 4300 automatic (1969)

Hello everone!

The next watch I would like to present is an Orient Crystal 4300.
This series released at 1969. Probably this was one of the earliest watch with mineral crystal glass by the Orient watch company.
It has a very nice stainless steel case, dimensions:36x42 mm.
Crown is signed with Orient's crown.
Case number:O 429-61173 , serial number:01837

The movement is cal. 42970, 27 jewels with day and date function.
Vibrations 18.000 bph.The balance has fine tuning screw.
It has a quick date function by pushind the button at the mark of 2.
The 429 movement family has 5 type from 21 to 33 jewels.

Hi Cuore Sportivo,

I agree with Speedseiko you have a very nice watch, but I am not so sure that it could be the very first Orient watch with a mineral crystal glass.

I am only presuming but….. Your case numbers are 429-61173 and if you consider how the case number policy may have worked then for example 429-13372 may have been produced earlier.

429-13372 uses glass 16-072 which is a round externally stepped domed crystal with the usual rectangular facet.

To push my thought bubble further there are many other crystals eg 16-006 16-007 etc which could predate 16-072.

I am not sure how the numbering worked with Orient hopefully another forumite more knowledgeable than I can set the record straight.

Cheers

Hello!

I wasn't sure in this and I wrote it was probably the first.
I know that Citizen uses mineral crystal from 1965 and Seiko also.
I haven't any database from Orient.
But thanks for the information.
regards

I have an Orient with the numbering as follows: 0429-61173 and 08109. The face is green and I don't think I have seen one like this anywhere else. Does anyone have any knowledge about this model? There is no number under the Orient Crown logo on the watch face. However, below the middle of the face is: AAA and underneath that is: Crystal and under that is: 27 jewels.
