Hello Mike, I've recently disassembled a 6309A and never saw that specific wheel, but I never got to the calendar mechanism, i've not worked on the dial side of the watch, so if that wheel is indeed from the movement, probaby will be from the calendar works.. if that helps for anything..!

You're getting warm- it's the minute wheel (part# 261611), which links the cannon pinion to the hour wheel, on the dial side.

Oh, thanks for the correction, the pictures on the tech manual are completely unusable..  ;)

Yep, the dial side of the watch it is then, but how on earth does Mike's watch runs fine without it?  :o

I would suspect the seller included it as a free extra :-)  If the hands are able to be set with the crown, and the hour and minute hands move in correct relation to each other, then there is a minute wheel installed.  It boggles the mind to think of how an extra one would get thrown into the case.  In watchmaking, there's not a lot of times when you have extra parts left over when you're done, or at least there shouldn't be;-)

That's my guess too, LOL...I guess I got the bonus limited "addition" ebay special. I wonder how long it has been in there?

Best,

Mike

This is what I opened up my case to discover...

What seems to me to be a clean looking movement.

There was a spot of corrosion on the case back, however.

But it doesn't seem to be straight forwards rust.  It looks like it might contain some of the gasket...

The ultrasonic doesn't remove it, but a little scrubbing started to take bits of it away.  Anyone have any idea what I can do to get rid of it?

Try a brass brush.  If it is not completely corroded, that is the safest way to remove foreign debris without removing metal around it.  If that doesn't do it, a fiberglass brush can be used, but they are nasty things and the shavings can get into things you don't want them getting into (hands, noses, eyes, watches, etc).  I don't like using fiberglass brushes unless it is with gloves on and under running water.

Mine opens 7 out of 10 the only ones it won't open are those that have been put on with a steam press or something similar :( :(
I have been in Deepshit many times; the older I get, the easier it is  to get there. I actually kind of enjoy it there :)
