I am waiting for the group but couldn't resist popping the bezel off to see why it was seized.  Full of dirt and grit.  Solid crystal retaining ring which I was happy to see.  Cleaned up the gunk and it clicks nicely now.

I've uploaded pictures of the items I received from the seller in the Philippines:

I won't put them all in this thread as there are quite a few photos there.
Here are a couple to give you an idea though:

So the dial is not a 6309-704X either ? i suppose it is like anything you get what you pay for and at that price if it was to go pear shape you havent really lost a lot of $$$
I have been in Deepshit many times; the older I get, the easier it is  to get there. I actually kind of enjoy it there :)

No, your'e right, the dial is definitely not OEM (water 200m resist) and most of the spare parts I received are non OEM as well. This is a perfect practice run so I don't ruin anything that's in original and restorable condition... You sure do get what you pay for, no doubt about that...

My project watches arrived yesterday. I have a little work to do!

and the 4205 movement that Ed sourced for me. It's already in the diver that I wanted to fix...

Overall I'm happy with my purchases as I had already seen pictures of the watches and didn't find any surprises. The watches were fairly clean, although I did clean them myself. The only bummer is that I lost the lower part of one of the stems somewhere around my desk. I need to find it before the vacuum does!  :-\

I spent late last night taking them out of the cases and dinking around with them. I am in hog heaven!

Well, here's my 6309 on the new band I got for it - I'm going to go with a military theme for this one...
(excuse the crappy iPhone 3 photo)

When you say stem do you mean both sections of a 6309 diver stem ? if so (OEM) they are hard to come by, what i often do is buy a complete crown and stem from such as Dan Braun when he is selling the parts on the TF.

I have the crown, the stem (the part that actually goes into the movement) is the part I dropped.

I've seen them on sale on eBay, but wasn't sure that they were "OK".

I'll keep an eye on the Trading Post here (and be very careful with the other movement!).

Hey guys,

Here are my PROJECT 6309 watches. The one on the left is original on a new Super Oyster and will be the main one for the duration of the steps.

The one on the right is my earlier mod project, also on a new Super Oyster II bracelet, but I really want to make it sing. It has a hacking featured already added and I added the SBBN007 dial with black day/date wheels. I have also refinished the case, and changed the bezel insert. But it needs a host of new parts and new gaskets to make perfectly good.

Best,

Mike

The back of the original one. Yikes, those are some serious scratches from previous owner's poor case opening efforts.

Looks like Oct. 1981 production...

Hi,
I just wanted to share with you a picture of the movement of my "donor" watch, which I got in the mail this morning. Now, the movement in my original 6309-7040 seems fine right now, I just got this "donor" watch because it has something a little special, as you can see from the picture:

No, I don't mean the rust (yes I have noticed)!
 :(
It's the 6349A movement type. This is a variant of the 6309A with 23 jewels instead of 17. Where did the extra 6 jewels go? I have no idea, but I do intend to find out!
The donor watch is a vintage Seiko 5 that I fished on El Bayo for $18 plus shipping. I carefully scanned the various candidate watches available until I could find one with a relatively clean movement, and this one was it.
Cheers,

My son found the stem when he vacuumed yesterday so I stayed up late after I got back from the County Fair.

Put together one watch from the two using the parts I liked the looks of best (bezel, case, dial and hands). Wore it to bed (active sleeper) and it seems to be keeping great time. I'll be wearing this all day, back at the Fair manning my friend's booth.

I'm leaning very heavily towards a mod for the rest of the parts, using parts from 10watches.

If it's anything like the 7S26 and 7S36, the extra jewels will be cap jewels for the train wheels.

Hi,
By looking at the parts list, I notice some differences between the 6349A and 6309A, for example the 6349A has an "Upper hole jewel for fourth wheel" which the 6309A does not have, etc. The only problem is I have no idea what these technical terms refer to, so I guess I'll have to disassemble one movement or two to try to understand. Just hope I can put them back together with no parts left over! :(
Cheers,
Andrew

I think you will find the 6309 movement really nice (and simple) to take apart and get back together Andrew, most times any way ha ha
