Very nice indeed! My limit was a little lower, since i have to bear with the massive shipping cost + 60% tax over the full price of the item (watch + shipping).. making the price go sky high.. thanks to my country's beloved customs..!

Oh, the day/date wheels ( one of them ) probably has been replaced.. they are different in colour, one is more faded than another

Good luck on your project watch!

I also don't know about the movement spacer, I always thought they were metallic..

Yup, you're correct - metal spacer with metal pressure spring on caseback side.

Thankfully, still available NOS.

Ross give Dan Braun a shout he often has used 6309 parts available.

This again is were the cheaper 6309 gets more exspensive when parts are needed, it often saves time and $$$ getting a complete re storable original one in the first place.
I have been in Deepshit many times; the older I get, the easier it is  to get there. I actually kind of enjoy it there :)

Nothing to worry about Ross! Both Pete K and Luka have them (unused), though as Tiger says Dan may be a good option if you're in the States. They aren't much, $15 to $20 in your currency should do it, anyway.

I got mine in as I'm in a slightly different boat, picked up the parts to build the 6309 - well more or less - and have been hunting down the missing bits since. Just leaves the crown stems now! But again, Dan B seems to have some rather helpful 'spares'.

cheers, Howie

edit: speak of the devil - can't link, but if you look through the Trading Post, find Dan's entry of July 20 12:20am. The movement spacer basically looks like that! (Plus, can't tell from pic, but should have a thin wire like bit sitting on the lip of the spacer, case back side)

Please join in, and do so in the thread for joining in (thread #3 in this subforum)!  ;)
As for starter watches, check the SCTF, there are the perfect opportunities in there!

Hi,
Here is a macro shot you guys will surely like, because it shows without a shadow of a doubt the reason why I have to change the hours, minutes and seconds hands in my "original" 6309-7040:

The day/date wheels look OK!
Cheers,
Andrew

You get what you pay for.

I got my 6309 from the Philippines today, with the spare parts kit.
Watch is in average condition - the crown only screws in half a turn or so, the dial is non-original (water 200m resist for instance) and the hands are in a similar condition to the one above. A perfect candidate then.
The spares kit is OK - the hands look good, and have a decent lume. The dial looks nice, but needs some lume as it only glows for a few seconds. The new crystal looks OK, but the crystal in the watch is in fair condition anyway. The movement at least looks clean, day and date quickset works however the hands have moved - the date starts to change at around 7, and then the day starts changing around 9 and it is finished changing by around 11.

Other than the crown not screwing down very well, the rest of the case looks like it'll come up OK with a little bit of work. The serial number begins 80, so I'm assuming this is October 78. Looking in the caseback, there's a mark that it's been serviced at least once, in May '07. There's no gasket on the rear of the case, so I'm lucky it doesn't look like it's had any water damage.

It started up OK after a quick shake, but I haven't had a chance to see how it's going for accuracy just yet...

Oh, and I have to say the yellow rubber ball absolutely rocks for opening casebacks!

Hi Kai,
A picture or two of the watch and one of the spare parts would be nice, for those who might be tempted to order one for the project.
 :)
Also about the crown thread: the crown may not screw in more than a half turn because either the case thread is worn, or the crown thread is worn, there is just one way to know, it's to take a picture of the case thread itself and count the turns.
Cheers,
Andrew

Finally, I'm getting around to posting some pictures.  So I thought I would go back through the posts and fill in the gaps.

Here we have my project watch as I received it from our esteemed leader...

Because I like to sprint before I can run before I can walk...  I'm thinking of a 6105 diver project when this finishes and I look down at my perfect 6309.  However, 6105s cost a bomb on ebay.  What's a cheaper way to build or buy one?

From what i can see that is a beaut !! or will be, much prefer an original in that condition than one that has been messed with and cheap after market parts all over the place.

To be honest there isent a cheaper way generally, a few options are:
  • Buy a fully restored beaut at big bucks.
  • Buy a restored one with all after market parts (not worth the $$$ IMO)
  • Look for a all original that requires work, but in the long run could work out quite expensive.
  • Keep on the look out for individual parts to make one complete one eventually, again long drawn out and expensive.
  • Get lucky as i did with a friend when i got Harry.
  • But beware when you have a nice 6105-811X it is hard to wear anything else, again just my opinion :)
Good luck and i really hope you sort one.
