Any Tissot in the house?
« on: July 23, 2010, 07:31:30 PM »
Does anyone have any Tissots (is that how you spell the plural of Tissot  ::) )?
Would love to see some.

Last Tissot I had was one with a true 24-hour movement, purchased in the early 70's from a little watch shop in Caracas.  Should have hung on to that one; haven't seen a Tissot with true 24-hour movement since.  Or did I have a fake?

Sure do!

My beloved Le Locle with Reserve de Marche

Seastar 1000, my first "grail" watch (took me a year and a half to find one!)
Cheers!

That Le Locle looks sooooo classy!

The SeaStar is such a beautiful watch, its a shame that they don't make it anymore.

Thanks Time!

My Le Locle is my go-to watch for all formal situations, and I think on a leather strap it looks even classier. The Seastar is maybe my most different diver, with a very un-oriental look to it, making it stand out among my Orients and Seikos. I guess Tissot pulled the plug on it because it never was a brand associated with divers and they probably didn't want to compete with Omega. But who knows what goes through the minds of these corporations? Just like Seiko's Sammy, I'm sure it still would be selling if it was still around.
Cheers!

I owned this vintage Tissot Seastar Automatic:

A beautiful little watch, but I hardly ever wore it, so I sold it to buy more Seikos.  :-X

Beautiful, both of them!
One of the things I like about Tissot is that it has as many cool vintages as Seiko does.

Here you go:

The watch was VERY poorly received by enthusiasts, and I haven't heard anything since the beginning of the year, so maybe Tissot (gladly) binned the darn thing. It looks nothing like the old one, and looks like something out of Armani or Invicta .

that does like a 'boutique' diver... And exhibition back for a 300meter diver...?
and 'SEASTAR' is written in Star wars fonts.  ::)

That Seastar looks awful. Invicta could not have done it any worse.  :o

It was a major let-down for sure... :(
The old one looked very good, almost something vintage with that bezel, but this one is  something I would expect from a fashion brand . After these sneak-peak photos in the beginning of the year nothing else surfaced, so I think Tissot got the message - EVERY board hammered the watch. The bad news is that if Tissot was really thinking about something like this horrible scar it means that the Seastar 1000 will become just a memory.
Cheers!

A gift from my wife, last year when she was my girlfriend...

I LOVE this thing!

Actually the current Seastar 1000 is rated to 300m and DOES have an exhibition caseback (with a big thick sapphire crystal).  At least it's a really cool -off center design with a rotor that has a little diver that swims round and round.  This watch has never really been more of a dress diver than anything.  I agree though, this new design looks like something I would expect from Fossil or Invicta, and not from Tissot.

I love this thing, but the standard leather strap was a bit too thin for me..slapped a Hirsch Liberty on it, looks great!
It's a PR50 Automatic T34.1.423.32
A simple and affordable model :)

Not enough time on my hands..

Axel, the dial set-up (hands under markers) on that Tissot PR516 looks similar to the Alfex 5624. (image by manualgear.com)

I don't see any similarities other than both being watches.

I don't see any similarities other than both being watches.

The Alfex 5624 makers advertise that the hands travel under the markers.  In Axel's pic of the Tissot PR516, the hands also APPEAR to travel under the markers, but of course I can't be sure of that.  ::)   The "hands under markers" if they in fact exist in both, would be the only similarity.  asleep What say you, Axel?

There are/were a few watches with that raised markers design. Afaik the PR516 GL was the first one.
It was nice to see Tissot reassembling this design in the PRS516 the last decade.

Cheers,

Axel
