Timely Watch Company
« on: December 26, 2012, 04:41:49 AM »
This outfit advertises the use of Seiko and Citizen movements in their watches.  Also their warranty seems to extend to watch parts that others do not cover.  However, they appear to be a specialty company making/selling watches for college football players participating in postseason bowl games.

[cynical streak]

Bear in mind that "Seiko movement" can mean a PC21 and "Citizen" is likely a 2035.  While they're reliable enough (the '35 is very repairable if it wasn't so cheap to replace) they're also used in the vast majority of cheap watches because they're, errr, cheap thanks to economies of scale.

Other things to be wary of is they're boasting about "mineral glass" (that's normal glass to you & me) and "stainless steel backs" (but the rest of the case may be made of best Swiss Emmental).  Kind of leaves you wondering, if they're the good points what are the bad ones?

And when he went on to say "Everything has beauty, but not everybody sees it." he clearly had not seen the Timely watches.

Wonder how many "jocks" worry about watch beauty, especially in a giveaway watch.  ;D

I guess you two opened their catalogue as well?  I've just spent the night scrubbing the inside of my laptop screen to make the images go away  :o

It was intended only as a passing comment/interest.  Screen scrubbing was not anticipated.  ;D

No, used a clean microfibre cloth and blew the dust off first*  :)

* although, removing the dust did have the unwanted side effect of briefly revealing the watches in all their hideous glory!

Though Timely's offerings were no objects of beauty, I've seen "fuglier" ones.

Should not have clicked that link!  :'(

Why is it always the Japanese who seem to think they can come up with a "better" way to display the time than good old hands or digits?

Might pose that question to Tokyoflash Japan.  They seem to be a frequent "offender".  (In reality, they're just upholding their reputation for funky novelty watches.)
