My eclectic herd of Bullheads...
« on: December 25, 2012, 11:47:58 PM »
Some time ago there was another Bullhead collector here with whom we shared pix of our collections periodically.  Unfortunately, he did not seem to make the move to the current Forum when host sites changed some years ago.  But, for Bull aficionados I'll do another posting, anyway.  I must apologize in that one watch slipped in that I did not see when taking these pix--a unicorn (bought from a member here, btw).  So, I know I currently have 36 Bulls, but for the life of me I don't know which I've left out--duh!  Also, I've omitted semi-Bulls, pseudo-Bulls, near-Bulls, etc, such as my SLQ, my many 7t32's and similarly controlled kin.

I'm posting on this sub-forum because, as you will see, many are not relevant to the Japanese Watch Discussion forum, though others are.

Thanks for looking and perhaps some will pique your interest.   Oh yes, and Merry Christmas--if still relevant to ya!!!

Sure, otr002, always room for one more.  In fact, I almost bought one of the NOS floating around a few years ago.  Also, thought about getting one of the NOS cases (probably the blue, though) and making my own with a new movement and dial since the "Brites' are not may faves... but hey,  I'll compromise a little where Bulls are concerned!  ;D ;D ;D

Ironic... otr002 mentioned the vintage Breitling and posted a picture of the brown one, and as it happened I was talking with a guy selling a couple NOS cases.  Well, I just bought an NOS case for the blue trimmed brother of the one otr002 posted.  Having a light blue chapter ring and dark, dark blue outer ring on the bezel, it's one I'd been looking for/at for some time (as I noted above).   :great:

Now, what to do with it when it arrives???  I'm not going searching for an elusive vintage 7740 movement, very limited production, etc., etc. (though new dials and hands were floating around not long ago).  Instead, I think I'll do as I have with a dozen or so other NOS cases... once it shows itself in North Louisiana I'll measure, research, and see what Seiko guts I can come up with that I like with the Breitling Bull case.  There are any number of Bull dials running free.  Now, what WOULD one call this Franken???  A Seikoling, Breikoling, Breiko, or???  :D :D :D :D :D   Stay tuned, when I get it together I'll post pix... but, don't hold your breath, swapping a new LS3 into my ol' Avanti is taking up a LOT of my time and I'm starting to get antsy about hearing it run.  :celebrate:

Below is a quick & dirty Photochop with something I happen to have on hand.  It's probably a Myota movement, though and certainly not a Seiko.  :great:   I'll not bother to open the potential donor until the case arrives and I check some basic dimentions... but, a thought.

Wonderful collection!

I've long lusted after an Omega bullhead, but they are as rare as hens teeth!!

One came up about 2 years ago on another forum but had long gone by the time I'd come up with the £3k he wanted.  :-[

kevkojak, the Omegas are pretty nice.  On ebay, for example, I've seen them of late for between $5K and $8K.  In fact, there has been one there for a while at the higher price-point.  Frankly, despite being a Bull, for the price there are just too many other watches I'm far more fond of.   I'm not wild about the dials of many of the old bulls (such as the original Breitlings), but as I recall, the Omega is one of the better ones, imho.

Thanks for mentioning the Omega.  There really don't seem to be that many vintage Swiss Bulls.  A quick perusal of ebay using "bullhead watch" always generates a great many vintage Citizens, and next vintage Seikos.  Far fewer of other examples, vintage or new, pop-up.  It is a shame more sellers don't know to use the word "Bullhead" in their descriptions.  I've simply stumbled upon some of my nicer, lesser-known ones.
