Bellmatic repair question
« on: November 14, 2012, 12:02:28 PM »
Hi,

I recently purchased a Bellmatic, (4006-6002) off the Bay. I payed $220 for it and it's in good cosmetic condition.

The watch seems to be keeping ok time but the quick set date function doesn't work.

I know this is a difficult question to answer, (without actually seeing the watch) but do you think the repair would out way the value of watch? Should I simply send it back to the seller?

Thanks in advance for your feedback/help.

No, I think this is an easy one to answer. I had the same problem.Dirt gets behind the alarm button and causes it to malfunction.Search for an old post (a few months ago) and you can read what some knowledgable people told me to do about this. You can fix it yourself.Search for "A little help with a repair", and you will find what you are looking for.

Hi Brand,

Thanks for the feedback/info.

Unfortunately I don't have a case opener yet, (it's on order) ;D  but by the sound of it the problem isn't too serious.

Comparing this watch to another Bellmatic I own, (4006-6021) the alarm button seems to sit much lower, (is the button possibly screwed too far down the stem?).

Note: I apologize for the rant but I'm really starting to dislike Bay sellers. I contacted the seller about the problem and they replied "I'm sorry, I didn't know". I asked for them to clarify and now they state it was functioning properly before it was sent.

Thanks  a lot Arcaro72 for the link  ,

relatively to the ebay's sellers ... to me... he wrote "For the pusher to change the date, the crown must be pulled out slightly, to the first stop position. Please make sure that the crown is in the correct position, and not pulled too far or too little."

I never heard this before. I don't belive that the instructions say this. You can double check me as there is a set of instructionsi on this site.
I can tell you for sure that none of my Bells work that way.

I am glad that you got $28 back.
The first Bell-matic I purchased had a non functioning quick-set date.It took me a long time to realize what everyone was talking about. I never got around to cleaning around the alarm button. Then one day I lost the alarm button and had to buy a new one. This fixed my quick-set problem.I learned the hard way,but i'm glad you didn't.Two watch repair people didn't help me either;so I don't fell too bad.
                                 Best of luck,

I have a Bell Matic I bought in 1978, still in beautiful condition, I would like to put a new band on it and was hoping to get some input from others that enjoy this watch, also I would like to take it to be serviced, by someone that is in the know, and is trustworthy.  thanks

:welcome: to SCWF and its Bell-matics subforum.  Appropriate vintage bracelets depend upon the model Bell-matic you own. And you should have a wide choice if you decide to buy a new bracelet.
You will find some great advice and suggestions here, but  of your beauty!  :great:
