« on: November 09, 2012, 07:20:59 AM »
the watch is new, wrapped in plastic film. the bracelet on the latest amphibia model is very poor. i read about it but until i held it it my hand i could not judge. there is a dent on the hollow folded link. i am claiming damage from paypal. still waiting for a dress style Vostok.

Vostok bracelets have always sucked.  Even the 'better' newer ones are still pretty weak.  Best to put it on a high quality leather strap of your choice.

I'm quite happy with mine. But then I'm running mine on a Nato strap. Used it as a "beater" & even dived in it a bit  ;)

Does your evaluation also to apply to the Vostok Europe watches/bracelets?

The Russians aren't exactly famous as watchmakers. Even though Vostok has moved to Lithuania and is trying to upgrade the brand they are mostly still large clunky watches that don't keep the best of time unless they have other than Russian mvmts. I have the Ekanroplan so I know.

The quality of the Vostok Europe bracelets was/is much better than the standard Vostok sucky bracelets.  I've owned a couple Vostok Europes and overall, the quality was good, a couple of glitches, but mostly acceptable.

There's a big different in quality between Vostok Europe and Vostok Russia.

I've owned four brand-new Vostoks.  Every single one of them died within a few months.  The longest-lived lasted three months and a few days.  One of them died in under a week.

I must admit I have never owned one because of my (perhaps unfounded) prejudice re Russian QC. Never forget the Russian factory that turned out thousands of pairs of shoes with the heel at the toe end, and who remembers the Cossack motorcycle? what an abomination.

Perhaps  bit too much vodka before reporting to work?  ;D

I don't want to sound anti Russian, but...

I will never fly a Russian made airplane, buy again a Russian watch, or feel cool riding on anything Russian made.
I trust the China made tech over Russian made tech.

If you design a new airplane in 20 years and it crashes in the demo flight for your potential buyers...

Does that "promise" extend to Russian Vodka?  (If they don't get that right, they may be drinking the wrong stuff, IMHO.)

it does.
The best Vodka that I know of (ok, I am not an expert), is not Russian but French.

Grey Goose is *the* vodka for someone who drinks it. costs more, but the quality is *much* better.
