...and Citizen do?  It's always bothered me.  There is just no comparison to the lume Seiko and Citizen use.  Omega came close on the last generation of Seamasters.

Do Swiss brands just not try?  Don't get it.

I totally agree, most Swiss brand glow about as bright as a used match.

My Frankenmonster glows like the sun!

The Swiss may have their hands tied by Nemoto/Seiko patents.

Otherwise, the Swiss may not put as much street credit in torch like lume...hasn't stopped them from continuously raising their prices; and getting them  :))

I agree, with one exception.
My Victorinox Swiss Army Dive master 500 lume's is as good as anything I have seen from Seiko.
Unfortunately, all my other swiss watches, including Omega just don't measure up when it comes to lume.

this one lights up like a torch, as do the numbers on the bezel up to 20

"Seriously"...  many Swiss do.  I've a number of them that are as 'blinding' as any of my many Seikos and Citizens.  :great:

Both of my Hamiltons have terrible lume. Makes you wonder why they even put any on the watch.  :-[

ok, as promised, here are the lume shots.
each watch received the exact amount of light at the SAME time.
OM vs swiss army dive master 500 (the only swiss watch out of many that I consider worthy of this battle)

the shot was taken 3 minutes later.

I agree.  I have a Fortis Marinemaster that just needs more lume.  They say so it does not glow too bright in the cockpit I heard.

I have a 90s Sub that had great dial but not hands lume.

Because I thought the theme was more expensive Swiss watches have lume that is not as good as Seikos that cost far less.

And the two Swiss watches that I have, one a make I did not see already discussed, are examples of this trend.

Maybe the issue is that so few of "those" watches are actually "Dive" rated. If they aren't going to actually pressure test, then getting them to be visible at 12" from your face isn't really important. So, they don't waste the money.

It's another one of those disconnects - some makers go to a lot of work to make a Dive rated watch that conforms to all the standards, and some make look alikes that aren't tested. Until the consumer starts withholding money and forces the issue, nothing will happen.

There will be those who make a Dive watch to standard, and those who simply claim they do. It's becoming obvious which is really superlative.

Some swiss offerings have great lume. You should look at a GP Seahawk Pro, Blancpain fifty fathoms and some others for the ultimate lume...

Omega and Rolex (new models with Chromalight) have very long lasting lume though not so bright initially. It definitely is longer lating than Seiko IMHO...

This Omega Speedmaster Professional Chronometer 300m has a nice lume.....Neilo has two colours of this model.

And all of my Rolexes have a VERY long lasting lumes. They shine for hours and hours, many more than any of my brightest Seikos.
