Utterly insane.  I'm not saying that a 6309-7049 cannot be worth $667 but not necessarily this one.  Even in today's ever increasing Seiko market for almost $700 it would have to have been a safe queen or a complete restore from IWW or Dr. Seiko.  This one was not.  The macro shots show the wear but the pics in general do not adequately reveal the condition to justify the final price.  That being said, I have bought parts from this seller before and have no reason to doubt their integrity.

The marketing hyperbole is another matter though.

"This Is Very A Hard To Come by Seiko 6309-7049 Because Its All Original and Also Seiko 6309-7049 Has Limited Production Run Because This Was Only Marketed in North America During Those Days"

Really?  All original are not impossible to find if one is patient and..oh...I don't know...sticks to places like SCTP, BUT...-7049 limited?  I assume that more -7040 were cased but since when has a -7049 been considered in any way more special or desirable?  Have I missed something?  If that is the case my -7049 is very special because it started in NA and somehow found its way all the way back to Asia when I bought it from Taiwan.  World traveler indeed.   ;D

and that guy is normally a parts source, not a watch reseller.  I'm personally amazed at that completely unrealistic price - that's way out of the range for this kind of watch.

Out of range for this model or for this specific watch?

I currently own 2-  6309-7049s and the last one I purchased was about a month (?) ago from my friend in Hawaii at his pawn shop and I paid the enormous sum of $50.00 for it!
I might add: it's all original and nary a mark on it!
I guess sometimes ya just get lucky!  ;)

IMO if you was to find a "NOS" 6309 boxed with papers etc then it would be worth that sort of money and a VERY nice one would be worth $500 (IMO) but that particular watch ?

I'd say both.  This watch is not a 6105.  It's not a 6306.  There's no way a watch as common as this should go for that much unless it's truly NOS with box, papers, tags, receipt, and hand delivery.  This particular watch is not worth anywhere near that, especially considering that the seller normally sells Seiko replacement parts, most of them A/M.

Diver prices are silly, but this is beyond silly.  JMO.  Congratulations to the buyer, whoever you are.

Totally stupid money for a watch that the made zillions of, and when you consider you could buy an original Tsunami ("Made By Noah", rest in peace mate) for less  :)  and now the 6105's are slowly approching Marine Master dollars  :o

Hell, I don't even understand the 6105 market.  Don't get me wrong, I love my 6105-8110 and will never part with it but it was all original at $200 maybe 4 years ago.  I've seen examples stuffed with AM parts going for more than twice that over the past year.  As for the 6309...as you say, for a stunningly NOS example (even sans tags, paper, etc) I can see it...for this one?  Just hope it isn't a harbinger of a trend.

I would love to pay this kind of money for a nos 6309  :57:  No box-papers needed!

I don“t take sellers like this one serious anymore for a long time allready. And btw, talking about issued watches, only officially issued watches do have extra value. I once got offered a 6309, just like Bur mentioned one, the seller in Israel tried to make me believe it was an officially issued watch, “worn by brave men of the Israeli special forces“. I thanked the guy for the great story, added a smiley or two, and told him I“d better not tell him my opinion about the “brave men“ and him trying to gain extra money on a made up story.  :s_laugh:

I have (at last) obtained an original 6309-7040 that needs a (bit) of work but has a great original dial, hands and bezel, case a bit beat up but no big dings and when I am finished with it its going to be worth a million dollars  ;)

So I am going start work on gathering the tools I will need this week to follow John's 6309 project which I am so looking forward too.

Have been offered this by a fellow on another forum, what do you think? Should this be the one to keep and not wear? I hope linking to a personal forum is not against the rules!
http://thirtyfivemill.com/2012/01/01/seiko-6309-7049/ Asking £450 for it.

I know the seller from TZ-UK. You can bet the watch will be original and lovely, but it's too high priced for me. For a collectors example though who knows?
Mind you he had a 6105-8110 for sale on here that was also too high for me at $1695 and that sold. :)
