New arrival: Seiko 7548-700B from the bay...
« on: February 01, 2012, 12:52:52 PM »
This 7548-700B from 1988 was listed on the bay (uk) with no reserve last week. According to its description it was not working currently. As there were still no bidders and because I'm currently in a quartz mood I kindly asked the seller to speed up the procedure a bit and he kindly agreed. One week later this little gem arrived today. After replacing the battery with a fresh one (very clean movement) its now ticking again  ;D

...and next to my other 7548-700B from 1983 on the right...

(new one on the right now)

(new one now on the left)

Thank you Seiko for such great joy and  value for money...  :))
Rgds.

Outstanding acquisition, Mario!  :bravo_2:

Do you plan to do anything to this one as far as resto goes? Maybe some gaskets, insert.....anything you have in mind? Or leave it as is?

Enjoy that one in good health, buddy.  :035:

I'll leave it as is for now and simply enjoy its (imho) very nice patina.... I would definitely never replace its bezel insert (as long as it is still in this condition), although I have a nice pepsi bezel from a 7548-700F laying around. During the next months I'll ask my watchmaker to replace all gaskets and to have a quick look at the movement. That's it  ;D

Absolute perfect lume colour - really goes well with the Pepsi bezel.
Is it just me, or do Seikos improve with age?

Well spotted, but.... no  ;D  The other 7548 (my old one) is on an aftermarket rubber strap (very pliable and comfy) but with a gl831 buckle  :57: My new 7548 came on an original z22 flat vent though...

"I kindly asked the seller to speed up the procedure a bit..."  Very nicely worded, gave me a nice smile and you a +1 for making me smile!  Nice catch.

For us WISs, I think it is a great move to snatch as many classic watches as possible, now that all the new watches have risen in price! At least this is my strategy now. My last diver grab was a clean 6306-7001 to add to the 6105. My choice of adding 2 Hybrids - 6309 casing with the 7548 dial and movement combines those 2 styles. Here is my recent addition in the tool concept..... an Alpinist green dial with the 6R15

Great watch, but she's from '78, not '88, brother!  Easy to tell on quartz divers because the battery change track starts with 1981.  On an '88 watch, it would start with 1991.  Congrats!

I remember a few years ago you could hardly give away a nice 7548...everyone was chasing the 6309/6105s.  I am glad they have finally come into their own.

:You_Rock_Emoticon:  OMG, I must have been dreaming, thank you very much for clarification!  :great:  I simply wasn't aware that the roots of these 7548's go back to the 70s... I just looked at the case back, saw the serial no. starting with 8 and thought "oh nice, a late 7548 from 1988"  :57: :)

No problem!  To tell you the truth, I thought the opposite.  When you said you had one from '88, I said to myself, "I didn't think Seiko made the 7548 that late."  Lol!  :great: Since yours is from early '78, it would be one of the first 7548s off of the line.  The 7548 was introduced in 1978, and I think it was discontinued sometime around '85-'86?  Nice watch!

Yet another great score! Seems to be in very good shape, and the vanilla lume looks wonderful. You never miss a Seiko diver on the bay, do you...?  ;)
Best regards
